my brother ruined his 2000 celica gts engine the same way, only it was 2nd instead of 4th. 10,000 rpm and blew alot. the shop took a month but DIDN:T change the valves which were totally bent. he got it back and drove it straight to another dealership to fix it right. TOTALLY could hear the bent valves and it lost lots of power. if you don't hear anything goofy and its got all power i'd bet its ok

if the 4B11 is an interference engine then you'll get valve float and they'll hit the pistons and bend. if that happened you would know because you wouldn't be holding compression. I guess the next thing to happen would be spinning a bearing, again you would know if that happened, it would start running like ***. seems like you got lucky, now don't let that little bastard drive your car anymore at least not ragging on it.

[QUOTE=strat10;6996024]Yeah, it made me sick to my stomach. I think I will look at the oil. Maybe the dealership wouldnt be the best place to take it to get an oil change

In my humble opinion, the dealership isn't the best place to take your car for anything. I baby all my cars. I had my civic for 10 years (ie changing the oil and fluids myself, timing belt, etc) and once I was in Canada and needed to get the oil changed (I change it every 2000mi). Took it to the local dealer. Drove the car home, and the next day when I was about to take off I noticed a puddle of oil under the car. The $%^&*() had forgot to tighten the drain plug. Lucky for me it stayed on long enough to get home, otherwise it would have been "new engine" time and all the frustrations that come with that when you're away from home without a car.

Maybe if he didn't give the clutch a chance to fully engage the flywheel, you'd have some slippage and perhaps only achieved 8000+rpm for a brief moment...you were in the car, how long was he in 3rd before he put the clutch back in?

I hit 8000 rpm once on a 2nd gear downshift for just a brief bit as I was braking at the time. engine is fine.

I havnt had a compression sheck, but all seems totally fine. When my bro did it, he immediately realized what he did and depressed the clutch. It only hit that high RPM for a moment.

Took it up to the canyons yesterday, and all felt good!
