Warming up engine

Hi All

Recently changed my bov & air intake.

Noticed that when i first start the car in the morning, if engine is not warmed up and i drive, a CEL light would come on.

So when i first start the car in the morning, i now let it warm up for abt 2 mins and the CEL stays away.

Wondering if a tune would make this issue go away.

I know some will ask what is the code but im just asking in general if anyone has such an issue.

For your advice.

Thanks!

Why not just let the car warm up? I let my Evo idle for at least 3-5 minutes on a cold start before I go anywhere.

I fail to see why an intake and a bov would cause a CEL. letting the car idle is not a good thing. I hop in, stay under boost and wait until the water temp climbs up before I even squeeze the throttle hard.

sitting idle doesnt warm up the car as fast nor as efficient.

i let my car hit 1 bar of temp before i move 95% of the time but even when i haven't i've never gotten a cel for it.

i would scan the code next time.

I think the manual mentioned 1 or 2 bars prior.

I don't usually warm it up for more than about 20 seconds, then I'm off.

I stay below 3500rpm until it's completely warmed up and stay out of WOT until it's completely warmed up.

Only at 6500 miles in my 2012 but no issues so far

Please, when you start a thread about a CEL, post the actual DTC.

You read the owners manual!!

AWESOME WORK!!

It states to let it warm up so that one bar shows on the temp. guage.

Why people can't read the F#@king instruction manual/owners manual that came came with the vehicle they bought is one of the biggest pet-peevs I have.

Why would you want to know things important enough for the manufacturer to put in to writing?? <- SARCASM

I would not be running any kind of intake on a stock tune.. I would go get it tuned to make sure its running right..

You need a tune with anything that changes your AFR. If your BOV is VTA on top of your intake then you're just waiting for a serious problem.

You need a tune with your intake for sure. i'm almost positive that's why your CEL came on.

This is the P0420 code. I would bet anything, go and pull it. It's what happens to me. It's a Catalytic converter code. There is a spacer fix supposedly for it you can buy for cheap. It happens to me, I get the code when I drive in low rpm when the car is not decently warmed up. If I let the car run for a while before I drive I don't get the P0420.
