I hate to say it but you are probably the one to blame.

I sold my evo viii with an exedy single disc with a lightened flywheel, the guys wife fried it in ONE trip, I repeat, ONE trip... it can be done, and does not have to be a stock clutch.

Now, blame aside, no big deal... your first awd congrats on making the jump over to the darkside, fried clutches happen to a lot of first timers.

I would highly suggest you go to another shop out in town, if you were in my area I would charge you about $500 fluids and all... and that is usually the going rate for a clutch done at a decent shop, so I would do my research... and I would probably go with an ACT, a lot more forgiving for the kind of driver that likes to fry his clutch in 6k miles.

Lastly, could you describe your symptoms? Sometimes dealers are full of ****, there may not be anything wrong.

Thanks!

yes its awd and yes i can to be blame but 6k miles??

Symptoms are between 3k-4k rpms in 3rd & 4th gear there is a surge and the car seems to pull itself with a turbo spool lol sounds good but yea this is what i am experiencing. What is bushur?

Wow...you act like the evo is such a hard car to drive. Being awd doesnt make any difference. As long as he didnt launch it. If he didnt launch it...its the same as any other car. Its not like he has a heay clutch in it with 800 hp. Its bone stock. So dont go making asumptions that he doesnt know how to drive or its his fault. If the guy had other manual cars, and says he knows what he is doing then thats it...no need to be like no its your fualt. Fyi...I had a brand new 98 gsx...bought it brand new from the dealer. The clutch fried it self within 2k. And it wasn't my fault....there was a defect in the pedel asembly..got the whole thing fixed under free no questions asked...and never had another prob with the car untill it crank walked......

Like i said, I saw an aftermarket clutch fry after one trip, 5 miles there and back... anything is possible.

So, RPM's seemingly jump above related speed, is this only when getting on the throttle? If so, then I would imagine your clutch is on its way out. Sometimes clutches can recover, if they have enough meat left on them and you take it easy, new material will eventually surface and rid your car of the slipping clutch problem, but who knows.

As for buschur, I don't know why I thought they were in Illinois, but they are actually in Ohio, I apologize for the confusion. I would still make the drive if you could though... worth it.

If that doesn't work, hit up the regional forums and ask someone in your area, they will probably have an answer for you.

Well the funny thing is my clutch is gone after 6k too but I just went to the quarter mile track yesterday and launched it 6 times, and now my clutch is gone. It jumps rpm in every gear and is horrible right now. But, I was quoted by a shop and he would replace my clutch with the ACT clutch and flywheel for $1,600. I think it is a pretty reasonable price and am going to change it soon.

Yea dude search around for some different prices. And I am pretty sure it is going to be lower than 1,600 cause I am going to get the clutch and flywheel cheaper than what they quoted me so I will save about another 200 or so like that and the labor charge was $500 for the install. So, just look around.

Seriously, I would think you'd have to try to throw your clutch out for 6k. You'd have to smell it all day every time you drove it. Did you not break it in properly at all? I wouldn't settle for dropping $1800 if I were you. If you had modified the car or something, maybe, but AWD sedan or not, <6K ain't normal.

The way I've always heard and tested (my friends evo had its clutch go at ~60K) get onto the highway, slow to 50ish, put in in 5th, give it >75% throttle and if the RPMs lurch or the RPM and the speedo don't move in sync your clutch is slipping.

Regardless, I think trying another dealership, being more assertive is worth your time to at least try. Unless you aren't telling us what you really did to your car, you really have a reasonable request.

sounds typicali have 32k on my 05 and the power steering rack went outtalked to service at the dealership and since I have a lot of mods thatarent even related they won't cover it. act is a good choice, just pick the stage that suits your need (i am running a stage 4 in mine) also a good time to put in a lighter flywheel good luck.
