****clutch is gone**** need serious advice
I agree with dave_evolvix on the point that you didn't neither launch the car or push it real hard so I would try to get mitsu fix it for free cause it has to be a default. But, if you think about it, the stock clutch is pretty ****ty and won't take alot of abuse. Plus if are gonna mod the car, then you will need a aftermarket clutch. I will go with ACT because I heard nothing but good things about it and it is cheaper then exedy.
Seriously, I would think you'd have to try to throw your clutch out for 6k. You'd have to smell it all day every time you drove it. Did you not break it in properly at all? I wouldn't settle for dropping $1800 if I were you. If you had modified the car or something, maybe, but AWD sedan or not, <6K ain't normal.
The way I've always heard and tested (my friends evo had its clutch go at ~60K) get onto the highway, slow to 50ish, put in in 5th, give it >75% throttle and if the RPMs lurch or the RPM and the speedo don't move in sync your clutch is slipping.
Regardless, I think trying another dealership, being more assertive is worth your time to at least try. Unless you aren't telling us what you really did to your car, you really have a reasonable request.

The clutch job that I did on my old evo after the guy's wife fried it looked like shredded beef jerky when I pulled of the transmission, nothing left, and it was an aftermarket clutch!

I cannot speak for the exedy but I had an hks twin disc (currently for sale, make offer) I ran it for a few thousand miles, the engagement is very off or on,the pedal is light like stock and will hold great but it slips a little right befor it grabs.an excellent drag clutch but if you only need a clutch for say 500 hp and under get an act you will be happy with it
If you are young, I'm sure the service writer will blow you off as soon as you say you never launched it, but before you give up, have one of your parents or an older friend take it in.
dude their full of it. The dealer here replaced the side skirts, turbo x2, and the clutch x2 because of failure. I would go to a different dealer.
And they can even hook it up to the computer and prove you did or didnt launch it because the ECU stores all the engine/tranny data

Like i said, I saw an aftermarket clutch fry after one trip, 5 miles there and back... anything is possible.
So, RPM's seemingly jump above related speed, is this only when getting on the throttle? If so, then I would imagine your clutch is on its way out. Sometimes clutches can recover, if they have enough meat left on them and you take it easy, new material will eventually surface and rid your car of the slipping clutch problem, but who knows.
As for buschur, I don't know why I thought they were in Illinois, but they are actually in Ohio, I apologize for the confusion. I would still make the drive if you could though... worth it.

If that doesn't work, hit up the regional forums and ask someone in your area, they will probably have an answer for you.

My last car's clutch slipped bad for 3 months.......with the last 2 months of me taking it easy on the clutch. Once I did that, somehow it recovered back to normal and it didn't slip no more.
just to point out the obvious youre going to another dealer to what end?if they put another stock clutch in its just going to go out and then you will have another warranty problem. the factory clutch is designed as a fuse to blow befor the tranny and t/c etc. get a chance to eat themselves.put in the act then call shepracing in a couple months!
My 09 is 3 days old and I smelled clutch yesterday and today after an hour long trip home from work. I've driven a stick shift vehicle for the last 4 years. I hope its just breaking in right.
An evo X is not a civic si.
I hate to say it but you are probably the one to blame.
I sold my evo viii with an exedy single disc with a lightened flywheel, the guys wife fried it in ONE trip, I repeat, ONE trip... it can be done, and does not have to be a stock clutch.
Now, blame aside, no big deal... your first awd congrats on making the jump over to the darkside, fried clutches happen to a lot of first timers.
I would highly suggest you go to another shop out in town, if you were in my area I would charge you about $500 fluids and all... and that is usually the going rate for a clutch done at a decent shop, so I would do my research... and I would probably go with an ACT, a lot more forgiving for the kind of driver that likes to fry his clutch in 6k miles.
Lastly, could you describe your symptoms? Sometimes dealers are full of ****, there may not be anything wrong.

Perhaps you've never driven anything turbo'd before? The evo was my first turbo car and I love that sensation. In fact you tell me one person who doesn't and I will eat my hat. It's a nice hat too.
If your clutch is out at 6k miles and you haven't modded it, you should be covered. I would ask for a mitsu rep to come out and make a ruling on it. How do you know the guy who test drove the Evo before you didn't beat the **** out of it and cause pre-mature wear. Now you are stuck paying the bill? Typical mitsu dealer, they won't cover anything and just blame the driver for abuse.
Do you think this is normal for any other brand? How do build brand loyalty when you treat your best customers like crap? I bet if my clutch was screwed on my 2.0T Jetta that I would get it replaced under warranty at 6k miles.
Lastly, why the hell are you paying $1800 for a clutch job? Down south the going rate is around $500 labor. Is the Evo X THAT MUCH harder to do then an VIII or IX (which is legendary for being a PITA). Too me it just seems that someone is just charging extra cause its a new car.
