This is insane. Clutches going out at 6k, 13k ??? You guys either have no idea how to drive, or these cars are built horribly. I hope my X lasts into 100k on the stock clutch. Anything else would be unacceptable, it's 2008!

Clutch stunk since day one, first time I took off and went into third gear the syncro's popped like crazy! My transmission hasn't been right since the day of purchase, I drove owned/drove numerous manuals and my dads drove semi's for well over 20 years and still to this day says the transmission is my car was defective since the day of purchase! It's never been launched or taken to a track. Blame me all you want, the transmission is defective! My dealership is looking at the car later this week, hopefully?

My clutch wore off at 8k miles.
Bought the car with 200 miles on it.
dealer wont let me claim under warranty and they say that because i use up all the clutch and the clutch is not defect.
my dealer is at rayskillman west indianapolis.
i did some few hard launch maybe 30 in total. clutch wear off right after i did 7 launch in a row.
they charge me $1400 to replace another oem clutch.
i ask them if i am allowed to change a aftermarket but they say it will void my warranty if the clutch did any damage to the car.

i think mitsubishi should do something for the clutch. they should have a recall on it.

btw. i drove manual in the past 5 days and all of previous cars is manual and this is my 2nd awd. first one is evo 4 and it did well.

I'm assuming he means EVO clutches. My 02 Civic made it to about 90k with absolutely no problems, and I drove that car pretty hard. It would have gone longer, had I not traded it in.

wow, I can't believe the clutches in mitsu are so weak. I have a '97 chevy cavalier daily beater with 175K miles on the stock clutch.

Right, because a clutch in a Mitsubishi is NOT anything like a clutch in a Honda, or any other vehicle for that matter...

So long as he wasn't slipping it to hell, or spinning it to 6k and dumping the clutch, I cant see how it is his fault.

These (performance) cars, are probably going to have fairly weak clutches from the factory, as they would rather the clutch be the "fuse" so to speak. Clutches are often cheaper to replace than axles, differentials, synchros, ect. However, less than 10k miles on your OE clutch and having it fail is BS, especialy if the owner has previous experiance driving a stick shift.

I did a little clutch-burning myself due to a jerk-induced rage incident. It was the first time the clutch has ever been anything but babied in 9k miles. I don't even do hard 1-2 shifts.

Anyway, the burning smell persisted for 2-3 trips. This leads me to believe that the clutch disintegrated, leaving little pieces of itself all over the assembly to burn off slowly. I'm not surprised those doing 30+ hard launches are left without any clutch at all.

It's not surprising Mitsubishi would throw in a weak clutch. We know they hate having to honor the warranty on these things. Using a weak clutch serves two purposes:
1) Makes those abusing the car easily identifiable
2) Protects the rest of the drivetrain and AWD system in case abuse slips by

because the smell is brought in through the vents and trapped within an enclosed area.
