Just a quick note, for the most part you can look at the rated flow and figure out what power the turbo can support then take 75% of that for awd whp numbers that should be real close at leat for pump gas.

The 3076 is rated at 52.5 lb/min so figure 10hp per lb/min or 525 hp. For wheel power... figure 7.5 hp per lb/min or 393.75whp, if you are using an accurate dyno that is and not a moon dyno.

For all the folks that dumped your hard earned money into this turbo... lets hope garret gets the issue sorted out. I would think it is an issue with the casting for the hotside or the finish machining operations that car creating the problems. It's not the wheels they use cause the Dom 1 (that I'm running) uses 3071 wheels and the Dom2 uses 3076 wheels, at least the reported flow numbers match up with the flow numbers for the 3071 and 3076. Also the blouch turbo's use garret wheels so I would think the problem has to be in the hotside casting or machining.

the turbo spins per usual and dips around 5.5kRPM then inclines again at around 6.2k (strange!) so its quite jerky.
In general, a 'jerky' car would imply boost leak or exhaust leak. Or a misfire from the sparkplugs.

So after a few conversations with a certain distributor...it is really apparent that something WEIRD is going on with this situation. They actually asked me to leave my car at their shop for an undetermined amount of time to inspect the car (i.e. hold it there hostage until a new unit could be swapped in). I was also told that their shop car was making 350whp (no baseline as a reference btw) by just putting on the turbo with no tune.

I already ordered my Dominator2 and it will hopefully be swapped in by next week...

My official recommendation...stay away from this turbo until they actually get published proof that the problem has been resolved.

Not saying they would do anything like this, but could turn out to be a shady situation. Another failing piece could mysteriously turn up in your car or something along those lines. I'm sure you will have better luck with the dom 2. Keep us updated of course

This is all really weird ... If it turns out to be the turbo I would at least hope you get a refund/good replacement turbo.

At this point with all the loss of $$$ each time, I would just want my money back and go a different route. Unless they were going to try and do something to compensate for all the $$$ wasted already.

Well at this point I'm just looking to get my money back for the turbo...which is in the works.

I my theory is that the distributor can't say anything about the situation, because I'm sure that Garrett is well aware of what is going on. The thing that I can't understand is why the distributor continues to make up fairy tales about how great the turbo is.

JUST SAY THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM!!!

So, I had a thought I'm sure some will not agree with but....

So far the only success story has been from a guy overseas running a stand alone. I'm starting to wounder if the change in hotside design and the fact that the turbo is bolted to the aluminum block by two brackets (I only recall two, could be more) could be playing hell with the knock sensor on stock ecu cars....

I know evoscan is getting there with respect to logging on the X but I'm not sure how many shops that have tried to tune one of these turbo's has done so using a fully functional logger such as what you get with EcuTek...

Perhapse some of the folks that have attempted to get theirs tuned could speak up about what tuning software was used and what logger was used by the tuning shops.

I won't be able to install it until this Friday, work had me doing overtime this last weekend and I couldn't afford to have my car gutted when I had the potential to be called in for additional server work.

On the plus side I wrapped my ETS Tubular Exhaust Manifold that I'll be using for the install. I think it took me almost 3 hrs to wrap the darn thing with the new DEI Titanium exhaust wrap. It's one thing to wrap a downpipe but quite another to wrap a set of headers since you have to pull the entire length through as you go. I had to wear gloves to avoid all the fiber glass like particles coming off the stuff which didn't help my speed but they came out really damn good. I'll post a teaser pic tonight and will be installing the turbo this Friday with first impression results on Saturday. There is a dyno day the following Saturday which will likely be just enough to let me tweak my street tune, worst case I'll schedule some additional time early the following week "if" I encounter any trouble.

The fuel pump and injectors are installed and tuned, I'll be logging a and tweaking this week so that there is no chance they could throw any variables into the turbo install.

HiBoost,

Glad to hear the injector and pump install went well! Start spraying those bolts on your turbo/downpipe with penetrating lubricant for the next 4 days and your turbo install will go off without a hitch! (Well hopefully without a hitch, possibly the only hitch being the GT30 lol)

Take lots of pics
