Ok it's been over a week i haven't driven my evo. Has anyone figured out any solutions? I have 1400 miles since my last service. Is it safe to drive my car?

No one can answer that question...

The ONLY way to get a sufficient answer is with Oil Analysis

More than 2% Fuel dilution, you have a real problem.

With 1400 miles on a service, I think there would be cause for alarm with 1%

Just sent off my oil analysis test yesterday, so the results should be here by mid next week. I had just a tick under 2k miles (wanted to change it early out of fear of doing damage to my engine. I'm anticipating that it will come back at ~2%, judging from that fact that someone else did an analysis with 2500 miles on their oil change and it came back at 2.4. This means that if we change our oil at 3k miles, we will have ~3%, which is dangerous. Mitsu needs to do something or they are going to be seeing lots of engine problems soon. I still just can't understand why they have this thing tuned like this. Inexcusable.

A change to any good synthetic....

The way it was explained to me was that the fuel in the oil can effect the flash due to some sensors... Right or wrong, I can't tell you but the oil needs to be changed anyhow. Err on the side of caution and change.

If you send out an Oil Analysis, 2% Fuel dillution is considered Critical.

Too much fuel in the oil will cause Viscosity Loss and Film Strength Loss. Less lubrication for wear parts.

A High AFR could be washing critical lubrication from the cylinders causing excessive engine wear

Scott (TTP) Frank (Xtremeboost) what you guys say
The AFR can reach the high 9's especially at high RPMs.

UPDATE! Oil analyzers inc has received my sample and is in the process of testing. Results will be in within the next 24-48 hours. Thanks all for being patient. I will post up the results as soon as I get them.

I just went out and smelled the dipstick on my bone stock 08 Evo X MR. 1750 miles, no oil change yet, so running on the factory Mobil 1 fill.

The oil was not black, maybe a tad dark, but what I would expect 1750 mile oil to look like.

However, there was a definite fuel smell to the oil.

Just now found this thread. All stock GSR w/1100 miles. Build date of Feb. 2008. Followed the factory break-in procedure. Never thought to smell the dipstick on a brand new car! Had the oil changed @ 800 miles. 3 days later had the reflash. So now 300 miles later, my dipstick had an unmistakable gas odor when I checked it last night after seeing this poll.

So now I'm real curious if people who are running Cobb stage 1 or other tunes are still having this issue.

Chuck, since you read this thread, you know that we are all waiting for some results of oil testing from a certified lab for OEM reflashed engines and aftermarket (e.g., ECUtek)reflashes. The two OEM cars that have been tested and so listed herein were >2% but need more individuals to step forward and have their oil tested under prescribed (3Kmi) Mitsu ("extreme") changing cycles. Two major questions of interest: Do OEM "tuned" cars have 2% or more fuel ? Does an aftermarket tune significantly reducing A/F resulting in <2%?
I've beached mine for the winter due to OEM tires but intend to test on next oil change.

Later, Ken

You need to run an oil analysis to see if the Fuel Dilution is above Critical Limits. At 2% Fuel Dilution, the oil Must be changed.

Maybe it's just me but I even do Oil Analysis on my MotorCycle. But at $8000.00 for just the engine on my bike, $23.00 bucks is cheap insurance.

If you drain the oil from your engine and dump it, you have no way to know if there may be a problem. Oil Analysis is more than just a way to see if oil is good or not. When used properly, it is a Tool, probably more like a Fine Instrument to see what may be going on inside. Fuel Dilution, Silica, Wear Metals which can tell you where a problem may occur or what may be causing the problem.

I know I have said this earlier, but for people that may not have read the whole thread.

Just like on my bike. First Analysis came back High Silica (Dirt) and Elevated wear Metals, in this case, Iron.. Cause: Air Filter... I had a K&N Filter... When I removed the filter and went to the AMSOIL EA Series, My wear metals were 1/10th of the K&N on my next analysis.

Less than $50.00 per year for Analysis compared to $8K for an engine = Cheap Insurance

Ken,

Not sure how long you are putting your car up for but if it is 2 months or more, I would recommend changing the oil unless you have something like AMSOIL SSO in it. Your TBN drops even if the car is not run and if it gets down to less than 1, the acidity can start to have an adverse effect on bearings and aluminum parts pretty quick.

If stored more than a few weeks, I would find a way to Fog the engine with a Fogging Oil to prevent any possible moisture damage to the cylinders and rings.

Anxiously waiting for results

BTW, I noticed that after changing my oil and driving 10 miles, it had the same slight gas smell to it. It smells kind of "sharp". Not sure how to describe it, but it slightly burns your nose as you sniff it in. Maybe this is how Mobil1 smells after it's used? I have collected a sample and will be sending it off soon.
