This FDR to me is really exciting. It is pretty similar to Evo VIII gearing, which is great for all types of racing. It also has a nice fifth that will improve fuel economy as well as tone down the high rpm buzz on the interstate. I am definitely interested. Will call Buschur and talk to Daniel about possibilities when ready.

Talked to Shep and he said it will cut 5th gear 70 cruise by only 300 rpms and 400 at 80... doesn't seem like it would save to much gas to me honestly.

It will be more than that. Where I'm at 3,000 RPM now, I'll be at 2,739 RPM with this. Where I'm at 4,000 RPM, I'll be at 3,652 RPM with this. That's significant in my book. Any less, and I would see a lot more bogging.

You'd have to drive a lot of miles though to make up the $1,600+ cost in fuel savings, if there are any to be had. The whole idea of this is for drag racing higher powered cars that don't benefit from the mechanical advantage of lower gearing.

I just think it would be great if mitsu had put a 6th gear just for highway crusing in the car... that would have been able to save so much on gas... and in all reality, probably added a lot of engine life since it wouldn't have to spin so much more.

I agree, as long as it could be as strong as the 5sp.

Didn't you say you cruise around 60-62MPH though? Our current 5th gear/final drive combo is just about perfect for that speed, IMO. This is still a 4cyl, and you're cruising below 3K, which is where most 4 bangers cruise happily. I only find myself grabbing for '6th' at a lot higher speeds.

oh yeah man, I keep my speed as low as possible... not quite the speed limit because I don't think there's a difference between 55 and 60 but anywhere from 58-62 is usually where i'm cruising, but I don't have very long highway stretches here, so usually at least 40-50% of my driving is still town/city driving. My best is the light coming on right at 250 miles on the tank... if I fill up from the light it's usually about 12 gallons, so I guess I could say if I ran the car empty I could get 290-300 out of the whole tank.

Speed limit here is 75 mph, meaning 85-90 mph is common. RPM's are a hassle at that point. I still get 23 mpg at that speed, but it is a little loud.

Man, at 60 mph I could get 27+ mpg.

But then I bought an Evo for a reason.

Were the "weak" differential pins addressed in the 2010 Evo X?

It's not really weak anyway...I am sure Mitsubishi apologizes for people breaking their **** with over double the stock power levels. You really think everything on the car will handle that kind of power? I haven't seen anyone break anything like that from normal driving on stock levels.

The day someone says "I've never launched or drifted my car but the diff pins broke" is the day I'll worry about it.

I would be curious about labor costs on this upgrade when my clutch has to be done. Has anyone bought the pins and had the work done locally? Just looking for a ballpark...
