Dipstick Popped Out!

Hey everyone. I know this is a normal problem for the 4G63 guys, but this just happened to me today on my X. Has anyone else had this happen? Any luck troubleshooting to find a solution?

I plan on just keeping it out of boost til I get home to somehow tie the factory dipstick down a little better. Only problem is there isn't a ring like on the 4G36 guys so it isn't quite as easy.

Man that made a huge mess. Oil all over the WINDSHIELD! It looked like LeMans when you see their engines explode. My heart sunk and I thought I was ****ed. The people going by had the craziest faces.

Stupid crankcase...

That sucks. I haven't had this happen to me yet. Don't think I've seen any other posts regarding this problem with the X's. I accidentally left my fill cap off on my first car, didn't notice oil on the windshield. However, when I got out of the car I could smell it burning and saw oil running down the front of my headlights, you can imagine the look on my face when I saw that.

So this is perfectly normal correct? Is this always caused by air getting by the piston into the crankcase or is it from the crankcase pressure, the air/oil in there already, getting overpressurized?

Maybe I'll get the buschur and dremel a little lip in the dipstick so it can hold onto it.

I've used a hose clamp on the tubing to anchor down another hose clamp that I could loop a zip tie through it with success. Assuming you are running higher boost levels, try and make sure your crankcase breather isn't blocked or clogged, sometimes the rubber line gets pinched and can cause this type of thing. Consider a breather valve or oil catch can to relieve some of the crankcase pressure.

I think I'm going to get the one AMS has online and put it inline from the vent to the intake. I like it becuase it has a drain at the bottom built in.

$100 to be safe is worth every cent.

I used to have this issue on my supercharged 3G Eclipse, this was my remedy.

use a 'P' clamp to the tube, and safety wire. Cheap and easy.

i find it odd that you're blowing out the dipstick with enough force to get oil on your windshield. Are you on the stock turbo? How much boost do you run? I would check your pvc valve to make sure its closing under boost.
