Trouble starting the X tonight!

So, I was out and about today with the car and had left the car parked for about 1.5-2 hours. Came back out to it, and attempted to turn it over. The car wouldn't turn over on the first crank so I decided to give it another turn, and again it failed to turn over, so a third time...(just wouldn't fire up, it sounded almost like when your attempting to do a compression test) and no go.

Soooo I let it sit for roughly 10 seconds and decided to step on the brake (thinking maybe my foot needed to be on it to turn it over...though it doesn't) this time when turning it over and it finally turned over (but very rough). Was pretty scared as this is now the second time something like this happened to me (something very similar happened about 2 months ago while @ Laguna Seca). I have my FP Relay replaced with the new Blue Relay, and am expecting from SSP the new relays to replace what is called out in the recent TSB.

Heres what I'm wondering, has anyone had issues turning your X over (similar symptoms as described above). Really am a bit timid about driving her till I figure out why it was having issues turning over. My car has roughly 13k on her and is very well taken care of. It was tuned by Bryan@GST and I assume its not tune related (though I obviously can't say for sure), so what may be causing the car to have these random hard starts? Its not very cold where I live (San Jose, CA). When I got back to my place I decided to shut the car off, and then attempt to restart it, and it fired right back up immediately (no hesitation).

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Some people had this issue before... not sure why. Maybe the crappy Panasonic that comes on most EVO X's... Doubt vapor lock would be the issue...

I'm sure it was related to the ECU in some way... or a relay was not switching over properly...

So you think maybe a crappy dying battery? I'm really hoping that with the new relays I just purchased in accordance to the TSB this solves this isssue, as it honestly FREAKED ME THE ***** OUT!

What relay would you think would not be switching over to cause the car to not turn over? Injector? Fuel Pump? Starter? All of the above?

i have had similar issues with my X not starting..... its happened a couple of times and pisses me off everytime. Im completely stock right now so i dont think it could bew from being tuned or anything. I think its just crappy parts put on from the factory. I have an appt in the morning at the dealership and i hope they dont give me any crap about it. I heard about the new relay and tsb. I checked and i have the old green relays in my car. Hopefully they will replace them with the blue ones and this will fix the problem. I will post a update tomorrow after i leave the dealership.......

I've had that problem a couple of times. I'm stock except for the Cobb AP and it happened when I had the economy mode flash installed. The AP log showed the battery was just fine, over 14V. This was in some cold weather near Chicago so not sure if that had anything to do with it.

My car was just in at the dealers for the front seat passthroughs and they did an AWC control flash but didn't mention anything about the relays TSB. What is that exactly?

Thanks for this insight! Please let us know how the visit to the dealer was, and if they replaced all the called out Relays in the newest TSB hassle free like they should (considering the consequences that could come about if they don't) .

I feel ya on the "pisses me of everytime" part. Now that its been my second time it has happened (was kinda of embarrassed as my lady was in the car with me, and she already hates my car because of me modding it, and then it doesn't turn over and she looking @ me like, "this is exactly why you don't do what you did to your car") Im very frustrated about it, as well as all the crap that has been showing up to be bad or an issue with the X (from the recalls, to bad relays, to some having bad fuel pumps...its almost as Mitsu cut every ****EN corner it could to save a buck to make a buck on the X...even the pain job from the factory is terrible...and I thought Subaru's were bad when it came to Orange peel).

Haven't had the car a full year, and have seen more issues with these cars then all the cars I have ever owned in my total life (of owning cars which is now almost +17 years). It's kinda of saddening...

Not following you here on how this can cause the car not to turn over. Care to elaborate a bit more. Its not that I don't believe what your saying, im just trying to get a better understanding of why you think that is the cause of sometimes the car not turning over?

Thanks!

EDIT: I was told by another memeber that this has been discussed before, and is or thought to be directly related to the FOB Key and ECU mis communicating.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love my X (as do allot of my friends and about 95% of the people that get in her, or see her) and am very glad I got her. I guess my frustration lies with all the issues that have been showing up as of late with our cars (08 and 10's) its almost as if Mitsubishi was looking @ cutting there costs on making this car (especially in the Relay area...which in my eyes is just plain inexcusable) in all the worst areas possible. I know when you look @ the grand scheme of things it does save some money (and allows them to lower the sale price of the vehicle), but @ what cost (reputation of your company, the product it sells, and future of return business). In my eyes, don't cut corners and it will actually save your company $$$ in the long run VS making a quick $$$ only to have to pay out the **** for things that could have been easily avoided from the get go (blown motors over a $10-15 dollar relay).

yeah...i feel like they are cutting corners on there cars. But i thought the EVO was there pride and joy....U would think these cars would have the best quality and built to were they have little or no problems. just like u said Ive see so many posts on here with issues and there the tsb's and recalls...what next?? And what sucks is some of these problems could be fixed by just using better parts....like the fuel pump relay. The damn part only cost like 10 bucks... but mitsu probably goes with the 5 dollar part to save money...the blows right there. I think all us EVO owners spent plenyty of money on our babies and we all deserve to have our cars not messing up like they do. But ur right I love my EVO... and majority of people that see it love it too. I just hope fixes these little problems that have been comming up lately instead of waiting until they become a big problem then they will have to give out the wazoo to fix them all....
