Longevity of engine life with an FPred

I am going with an FPred on Tuesday. I was wondering what kind of engine life you guys are having before you have to build the motor because of a failure of some type. aka having to build the motor

We are planning on going to 450whp on E85 and stopping so we dont put too much strain on the motor

Mod list:
HKS Fcon Vpro with knock amp
1000cc IDE injectors
Custom MAF less intake
Dual fuel pump setup
Circuit Racing testpipe
ETS V2 catback
UR down pipe and 02 eliminator
Blitz electonic boost controller
HKS SSQV BOV kit
ETS 4" FMIC
FPred with FP upgraded actuator
Upper and lower intercooler piping

Thanks for the input guys(and yes kelford 214b and valve spring kit are my next upgrade and will be doing ARP bolts at the same time)

that isn't a question that has a specific answer... how are you planning on driving? DD with some track time once in a while? Flooring it at every stop light/sign like you see a lot of morons doing? Planning on changing your oil at 3k with the best product out there? The 4b11 isn't an old motor, but guys are pushing a lot more power than that with no reliability issues, while some may have no mods at all and have broken engines already.

lol... so you are going to run the motor at 2x the power levels that it was designed for...

it will probably last the same - it really comes down to how you drive it, and how you look after it...

Other failures to consider

I know U are interested in engine failure at these hp and torque levels but there definitely will be drivetrain failures unless U direct attention to the clutch and tranny. In addition, engine temp's may become excessive at these levels. The 4B11 180 degree rotation, relative to the 4G63, has high build up in temp's in the rear firewall. Koyama's "Orange Monster" with their 600whp X built an entire venting system to reduce this heat load; UR 4" front mount is in the right direction but a larger radiator will also help but this a definite problem area as one increases hp to these levels. In addition, AMS found that the AWD system losses some of its functionality at hp/torque above 350 requiring some mod to the diff., can't remember the details.

Later, Ken

I wouldn't run a Red unless I at least uprated the clutch, rods, pistons and valve springs

depends on how u maintain it
i would suggest changing your engine oil frequently depending on how hard u drive the car
and your tuner must be gd
and u clearly dont have enough supporting mod
like uprated clutch, differential, flywheel etc

the weakest part right now is the rods, if you change them then you might as well upgrade the pistons also and you'll be set.

I'm sorry I forgot to state I have an upgraded clutch and flywheel

I am going to DD the car and rarely take it to the drag strip but of course I will get on it once and a while. I have never launched the car nor do I have a desire to because of the tranny issues...

I'm trying to see how long people have been running FPreds. I understand the motor will eventually break just trying to get an idea on what life people are seeing. I will change the oil every 2500 miles since I'm going to be running e85

Ken, what tranny issues? The only issue that I know of is the diff pins shearing? Do you know of some other tranny limitation? I'm not doubting, just trying to see what you know that I don't

It seems the point that you really need to think about building the motor is if you up the rev limiter. Since you don't launch or race very much I'd say that you are fairly low risk.

I am also interested in the additional tranny issues...

Thanks for the info so far guys!!

Any FPred owners care to share how long they have been running thier turbos with a stock motor?
