Help on Exedy Stage 1 clutch install...

My is uncle (a long time mechanic) is installing an Exedy Stage 1 Organic clutch on my 08 GSR at his shop. He says he's having trouble fitting the new clutch. I don't know much about changing clutches so does anyone have any idea what might be causing this issue? He said there might be a part missing. The clutch came with the disc, housing, a small metal piece that looks like it fits in the middle of the housing, and a plastic alignment tool. Any help is appreciated.

He was very vague and seemed like he was in a hurry so I'll have to get more details.

OK everything worked out thank God. The piece that snaps into the housing apparently was sticking out too much compared to how the stock clutch was so my unlce undid everything and did it again but it looked the same. After some troubleshooting with fellow mechanics, they realized that there would be more of a gap on the Exedy than the stock after the pieces were snapped together.

Just picked up the car from his shop and wow, I can't believe the engagement on this thing now. I had the restrictor pill removed as well. I stalled trying to leave the shop. I mean there is about a 1/4 of an inch between fully disengaged and fully engaged. Gonna take some serious getting used to. Hope I don't mangle it too much during the break-in period. Any advice with that as far as rev-matching and what not?

the engagement point will change dramatically after a few hundred miles. just take it easy to bed in the clutch material to the flywheel.

Thanks for the info. I feel like I can't engage smoothly in any gear though, especially first. I smelled burnt clutch after my first test drive. Is it better to let the clutch bite quickly (and jerkily if I may make up such a word) or ease it out (which seems to lead to the burning smell)? Like I mentioned before there is a very small window for engagement compared to stock and is difficult to manipulate smoothly.

I think you should take it easy and break in the clutch slowly.

Well if by elaborate you mean "explain how to remove it", I don't know. There are write-ups though on this or the other forum on how to DIY. If you mean "what does that do", it reduces the distance the clutch has to travel to fully engage/disengage.
