Driving too hard?
I've had my 2014 Evo MR for almost a year and half now (bought march 2014) about a month ago I had to take my car to the dealer for some pretty awful sounds it was making. Turns out they thought it might be the pinion bearing in the rear diff. I guess it was not worth the effort to rebuild since it was under warranty so they replaced the whole rear diff and now the car is back in the shop for what they have diagnosed as a bad tail shaft in the transfer case which, yet again, seems to not be something they can fix itself so they're ordering me a whole new transfer case? Having never tracked this car or done any mods I'm beginning to wonder if i drive it too hard and that's what's causing all these problems. I go at it a bit with friends some times on clear roads at night but thats about it. So I need to dial it back even more cause at this point it almost seems like what was the point in getting the car.
It sure shouldn't be doing what it is from what you mentioned. Driving hard not even close. Stuff does fail but it shouldn't with that little of use. At least they are standing behind it and fixing it.

What usually kills those parts it clutch drop launches from a stop, and wheel hop. You can't really do the gnarly launches with the SST in the MR. And wheel hop is really only an issue if you're making a good bit more power than stock. Seems like you got unlucky and got some bad oem units in there..

I can't help you much with your main question but replacing the whole assembly of whatever failed is standard operating procedure for dealers. They might offer to fix a stand alone part if you're paying out of pocket for it (don't hold your breath), but if its under warranty the whole assembly is getting replaced.
the other thing, if you have another driveline failure, you might be eligible to lemon the car (in Washington its 3 times, same with most states). its up to you if you actually want to lemon it, but I'd recommend contacting Mitsu over it. My dad lemon'd his Ram a few months ago and there were trying to make us offers to keep the truck, making payments for us, etc. so at worse you can find out you're not qualified, or you might get some cash out of it, or you might get a new evo out of it...

thanks for the input. I've never launched the car because I've heard enough on all the forums how I'm basically asking to break it by doing that (all though why even bother adding that feature then). I read a brochure online from nj dmv that for lemon law its gotta happen with 2 years or 24k miles sadly enough im at ~36k buy maybe they make exceptions. The part came in and its getting fixed now so hopefully the bad luck streak is over
Something I forgot to mention in the beginning. On the day they diagnosed it as a transfer case/tail shaft problem I almost died (possibly there were to many close calls for comfort) because while driving the brakes just completely gave out as in pedal to the floor and almost no braking action happening. This actually happened about 4 times on 20-25 minute drive from the dealer to my house. Never had a single problem with the brakes until they gave the car back with their diagnosis that day
Update for those interested. Towed the car to the dealership two days ago and had a fun time trying to reverse the car off the flat bed as the brakes decided to give out again and all of the sudden the service asc/awc (one or the other dont remember) light came on. Got the call today saying transfer case is done, they verify reproduce asc/awc problem as the light was no longer on, and they figured out the problem with brakes. According to them I need a new brake booster and I should replace the master cylinder along with it altogether ($500 labor, $500 CMC, $1000 Brake Booster) $2k not covered under warranty because I'm 1k miles over the bumper to bumper which would've covered it (36k b2b coverage). To top it all off the car is making the same grinding/scraping noise (not as loudly i assume it get more intense as the part begins to wear and the problem becomes exasperated). Took the car to my local mechanic as the brake pedal is more like a brick now barely going in at all which he agrees could be a brake booster but doesnt explain why it went to the floor before.
So at this point I opened a ticket with Mitsubishi Motors to see if the car qualifies for lemon law which I've been informed is pretty unlikely but we'll see if they dont fix or lemon law it. I likely pay to repair the brakes and trade the car in. To have these three major components all go within about 6 months is just kind of crazy and it sucks I've waited almost 10 years to finally be able to get this car and this is the experience. smh mitsubishi needs to fix their ****.

I'm at 75k on my 2010 GSR, beating the crap out of daily since with bolt-ons, and it's rock solid (knock on wood). Other than regular maintenance, I haven't done anything out of the norm to maintain her. LOVE this car. Check that, I do have a lot of buzzy plastic inside, and chipped paint, but other than that, it's solid.
Wouldn't most of that be covered under the power train warranty though? The cmc didn't they just have a recall for most evo's anyways does yours not fall into the list that had the recall?
For those wondering no the car wasn't bought used it was brand new when i bought it (Mar 2014). Also yes both the rear diff and transfer was covered under the powertrain warranty. Sadly still waiting to hear back from mitsubishi on whether they're gonna lower the cost or cover the cost for the brake booster (hopes aren't high on this one). Also after googling some stuff i think cmc is the clutch master cylinder so that maybe a typo they're suggesting replacing the master cylinder for the brake system forgive my car ignorance if those are indeed the same thing. Got the car back last wednesday or thursday (forgot which) and there has been yet another grinding scraping sound going on since i picked it up. Just went to the dealer today to test drive together, they kind of seem like they're getting tired of me being there. There diagnosis possibly something in the back left brake shoe. Essentially they said I can pay them to do "exploration" and then pay for whatever they find as the issue or since i know i need brakes and rotors just have my brakes and rotors replaced and when doing that do the brake shoes in the back as well. As much as I would like to believe replacing the shoes will fix the issue I'm really not very optimistic at this point
In the mean time seems like its time to shop around for a second car.
