Just keep using the GLI and once you get out of college and get a proper job, then you can buy whatever you want. Evo + $500 payment + insurance + part-time job = the quickest way to get into debt at a young age. Even if you've managed to save enough money to pay for an evo out right, you'd be better of putting that money into an investment of some sorts (CDs, Funds, Bonds etc.).

sounds safe... but then again it also depends on your age and financial ability etc..

Do whatever you feel is right but when I was young I drove like a maniac and went through several cars due to always wanting to go speeding and racing and the like. Back in 98(I was 17) I had a 90 Civic HB with a Type R motor stroked to a 2.0L (B18C5 stroked) and that thing was fast as all hell, I beat on that thing like there was no tomorrow because it was fast and I was young always looking for a thrill eventually crashed it trying to show off to some females like a retard. Like everyone said though some guys your age dont have the speed bug so if you think you can handle a fast car at no driving expierence then i'd say go get it if not get something you can mod up slowly and ease into different amounts of speed with. Sorry for the long post.

Sounds like a smart and responsible plan. You'll get your Evo someday...but you're right in not getting it as your first car. Plus, wait until the 2009 Evo comes out...that way all the kinks will be worked out from the 2008.

my first car was an evo 9 mr but then again i got it this year and i have been driving since i was 14 and i have already switched from a 1400cc ciotren which was my grandpa's to a hella old Mercedes turbo diesel that was my dad's and then to my sisters scion tc (fun car btw) and then i finally got an evo and the minuet i got in the evo and it hit 3500rpm it was time for me to get a new set of boxers thats. so wait a year and learn how to drive really well cuz ur going to ding up ur first car no matter how careful u are and then get an evo and when u do don't drive it like ur michael schumacher cuz u will crash/total ur car.

Pleast don't, I am not trying to be too judgmental here, but if you get that car and get tickets and in accidents because its too fast, you are going to make the insurance rates even higher for the rest of us then what they already are for that car.

No offense, but it is exactly kids like you who are 16 and get their hands on a car like this and drive it like a maniac, making the rest of us pay for it through insurance.

I am 22 and got a GTI as my first car and I couldn't be happier with my decisions. You can get a GTI and after two or three years, get it chipped, and its like driving a completely newer, faster car. Thats what I did and I still have my GTI that I've had since I was 15 and am looking foward to the Evo X as long as it isn't priced the same as the STI.

Another thing, if you are in to modifying and customizing cars a little bit, get a litte bit of a cheaper car, (again i'd recommend a GTI) and take the rest of the money you parents would've spent, if they are up for it, and upgrade it.

if you have the $$ for an evo X, save it. buy a less powerful car (and one that you dont mind getting scratched / bumped as it is likely you will probably put a few blemishes) and get the evo X after a year or so. This is what im planning on doing, drive this GTS lancer for a year and trade it in next summer for the X or a 350z
Your a *****. The stock lancer is too much? Im 18 and drive an evo, I am selling it because I can't afford it with gas, insurance, payments and maintenence. That is one thing to consider, during the summer it was no problem but when school hit and I worked less its a pain. Make absolutely sure you can afford it to avoid headaches later.

I got my car when I was 17 and regularly do autoX and between the learning there and the ability to get my speed bug out I have never gotten a ticket in the evo, or come remotely close to crashing it. If you can afford it go for it, but be mature about it a car isn't a toy.

GSR's in dealerships beginning in January and I have heard MR's will be in dealerships at end of January/beginning of February.

I went to a dealership over the weekend who had 5 Evo's on order and they expected them in January.

Oh and FYI, they still have no idea how much they are going to cost.

Try building a car and or driving something that's actually moderatly fast before you blow 35k on a car.
