First Car
As someone probably only slightly older than you, having already owned an evo, i can tell you that my statement was made from experience, not ignorance.
Money is not wasted if it is spent on something that you love. I love cars and every time I push down the accelerator in my Evo, any concern about whether or not I should have bought the car and put myself into debt is answered with a "Hell, yes." You are only young once and if you can get through the payments and do not have a whole lot of other responsibilities, you go for it.
Could be why I purchased what I could afford to fix. If your parents pay for everything go ahead and get an X. You won’t appreciate it as much if you had brought it yourself. That does not mean you won’t enjoy it though.
Transfer case 2000.00, Clutch 1500.00, Tires 250.00, oil change 60.00; Getting your rich parent(s) to pay for everything Priceless. (can you feel my hate??)
That being said, The X is not a beginner’s car. AWD makes up for bad driving. It is just like putting slicks on a 2 wheel drive car (front or rear). Or getting a GSXR 1000 for your 1st bike.
Also you don’t get used to “Fast cars” with a learners permit on Public roads
. That is the kind of statement that should make everyone who pays for their insurance with their own hard earned money cringe. My .02
dude....my first vehicle was a 1990 Ford Bronco....you think thats what i really wanted? Of course not, I wanted something new and fast. Sure it was fun to go mudding in, but you know what happened to me? I flipped that bish on its side going down the highway. thats because i was being immature and stupid. I'm not saying YOU are immature or stupid because i don't know you....but I know plenty of people that have been in multiple accidents in their first few years of driving. I even know someone that was driving home from the DMV the DAY they got their Liscense, and they got in a fender bender. Sh*t happens even though it might not be your fault.
From the Edmunds comparison of the Evo IX vs. Evo X, I'd say go with the IX, but its up to you whatever you choose. Have fun and be safe.
