AGP Turbo's EVO X
You haters are funny, and pathetic. The x is making more power for with the same mods as the 9, a LOT more. The boost may not be able to go up too much past stock, but the taper is easy to fix, as agp has already done. Optimizing air/fuel is a huge source of power for this car, and with the car having only a hair smaller turbo, mivec on both intake and exhaust it seems to spool at crazy low rpms. Dr smile and boostez and a couple more of you, you guys in particular are really hating on the x, and for what? So that you can feel like the 9 that you just bought a year ago is better? Look, if you don't like the x, then don't buy one. But for christ's sake, act like an adult and stop whining. I mean even after the car makes a huge gain in power you're like, "still sucks, my 9 blah blah." Then, agp says that the car is now making 330 whp on an intake, exhaust and boost controller! You then whine more saying,"well the ecu reflash won't do anything...blah blah wah wah." It's pathetic. Look, no one is contesting that the 9's block, being iron, can most likely handle more power than the evo x's aluminum block. However, the new motor is more advanced in spite of this and makes more power with the same mods, a lot more. I've never met anyone who contests facts. It's like saying that the sky isn't really blue, it's brown. WTF?! Look, your 9 is a great car, and for 1000hp applications it's the better choice. Dare I say up to the 600-700 mark, the evo x is the better choice. And to z1500 or whoever is tuning the x, info was released in japan that the x's ecu pulls throttle near redline or whenever boost spike is detected and that this is corrected with a reflash. Just in case you hadn't heard that yet, I figured I'd bring it up to help out. My .02. Incredible job so far, I will be buying some parts from you guys for my x when they are available. Let us know!
2. 4-5lbs/min difference isn't only a hair smaller
3. People are all about performance on limited number of mods. People like power potential without changing much. That's the sole reason why the EVO got popular in the first place. I have no doubt that the EVO X will gain a lot of whp. Hell, I'll even give it 100whp increase over stock on the stock turbo. But that's not uncommon in 4G63 land.
Lastly, the X is great for what it is, but I don't like fanboys. Because of the excitment over this NEW car, people are overexaggerating on practially everything about this car. The only thing that I take for fact is it's excellent handling! Everything else seems like a smoke-screen.. It's not all powerful like fanboys are making it out to be.
I still have yet to see a quarter-mile pass both in STOCK trim and modded. I'm willing to bet it won't even go low 12s with ~350whp.

Don't draw too many firm conclusions yet guys. These are impressions and guesses along the way. Jumping up and down on eachothers necks isn't going to accomplish anything. The Dyno we're using could be a little high. We're going to put a IX with about the same bolt ons on the dyno to see how they compare. And the X is always going to need a few extra hp to overcome slight pig factor. The X tipped the scales at 3485 with half a tank of gas.
dont mean to keep the bickering going but why would people (i assume you refer to new X owners that are posting their opinions) be over-compensating here? Do you really think that they made a bad decision and now are blowing smoke up you know where to make themselves feel better?
you also sort of contradict your self, if everything about the X is a smoke-screen (in the context, i take it as meaning still no solid proof on anything but handling, etc) how would you, of all people, know that the "fanboys" are making the X more powerful that it really is. I guess that you have the ability to see past the smoke-screen. Good for you, i guess.
Time will tell, i was and am of the mindset that i will not dismiss the X nor will i praise it (except in form of a subjective opinion) until i see it smell the interior, step my foot on the accelerator

1. For the record, I own an VIII.

From another post (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh....php?t=321315), dotted lines is an IX, solid is X. Both stock.

What I'm saying is that, it's stretching it far to say, "OMG - with just a few mods, it made oodles of power! It has more potential than the IX!!!" That's just being a fanboy. I remember when the IX came out and these kinds of comments had merit because of the hardcore facts: a) it had a larger compressor housing and therefore could flow more air, b) was low on boost stock, and c) had the new MIVEC cam gear.
Fast-forward to present EVO X.. we have a smaller turbo (which obviously flows less), more boost, larger boost tapers (up to 10psi at redline), inherent knock due to advanced timing and high intake temps and yet we still want to make the same comments????

Btw, noone will know if they made a bad decision until time goes on. Many people ran into the P0300 code after the VIIIs got into a lot of owners hands
Even now we are hearing things about rubber water pump impellers, notchy shifting from 1st to 2nd and clutch smell with moderate running..

One thing ive been thinking about all day is the acd and other electronics that control diffs.
I had a hell of a time once i hit over 600whp launching my car with the acd system.
I have over 200 passes with front wheel drive burn-outs than the acd system would lock the rear and have a huge shockwave go thru my drivetrain. The only way i could cut my 1.4 60fts was with 4 slicks and a super sticky track.
I ripped out all the acd stuff and will never look back for drag racing. I know AMS and others do not use a acd system in there road course car.
It is really looking like the Evo X will be a awesome daily driver and fun on the road courses but thats about it. I just don't see it doing what a iron 4g63 will do for drag racing. But with that said i can see someone with enough money sleeving the block gutting the car than yanking all the electronics out. But than you could just get a 03-04 evo and be in the same boat.
The Evo X just reminds me of the Subie sti allot.
Now with all this said im most likely will by a evo x soon for a daily driver

Doesn't the VW have the same setup?
So far from what I can tell, the tcases on all the Evo's including the X are very similar. I'm willing to bet you can convert an Evo X tcase into a non-acd one using the VC and end cover from an 03-04 Evo VIII. You should also be able to eliminate the AYC using the Rall-art rear diff once the car comes out. I'm sure converting to an Evo VIII-IX rear diff, or possibly a modified version of our drag rear diff setup could be made to fit as well.
All of this is speculation so far as we haven't been lucky enough to see a X in person yet. I guess living on the west coast has its advantages every so often!

Car and Driver ran a 13.4 stock with the Evo X GSR, for whoever thinks it wont break into 12's at 350whp that is a rediculous statement I guarentee mid to low 12's with that kind of whp.
Hopefully we'll see numbers pretty soon in stock trim to see if the AVERAGE driver is doing 13.4s...
