I gotta feel for some car salespeople.

I was with mitsu for almost 3 years. When the EVO 1st came out, every jack-leg kid came out of the woodwork for a test drive and wanted to talk about the car all day long. Same old story...."I'm comparing the EVO and the STI."

I stayed away from that car like the plague. I sold maybe 2-3 Evo's in 2 1/2 YEARS. God knows how much time I spent with people talking about EVO's.

There isn't enought profit in Mitsubishi's to pay salespeople as professionals.

I know you're probably not really thinking about things down the road since you really want the car now. But what are you going to do when you're ready to move out of your parent's house? The loan on this car is going to tie you to living in your parent's house for the next 6 years. If I remember correctly, you're 19 years old. Do you plan on living in your parent's house until you're 25 just so you can own this car? I couldn't wait to move out of my parent's house when I finished college. I wanted my own life. Needed my own apartment so I could nail random chicks whenever I wanted to. Couldn't do that living under my parent's roof. Just something to think about.
Actually im in 20 and in a fairly serious relationship so the whole nailing random chicks isnt a problem lol. But i understand and completely agree with the logic, im in no hurry to go anywhere, if anything 1 of 3 things will happen. I move with them when we buy land in BFE GA or TN or somewhere and build my own house on the decent arces of land we plan on getting as a family (I've already put my share into it), Or i stay here if they move before im done with school and live where ever with my GF which wouldnt be hard with split payments yet again and last option is going wherever microsoft sends me when im out of school, in which case ill be making a decent ammount more anyways and hopefully they will send me to BFE so my money will go further. Either Scenario i have a roof over my head with not much effort, and will have the funds for any of the 3 + a car payment.

Like i said though, i completely agree with your logic, and my sister was one to want to get away from home ASAP (we wanted her gone just as much ) and she left around 17 for college, is now a doctor and if worse comes to worse ill suck it up and move to chicago with her and continue school there... but thats HIGHLY HIGHLY doubtful id ever do that. But either way i have 4 ways of living each with a car payment, pretty nice to have things planned out

Agree'd but it would be nice if they hired people who actually knew about their cars at the dealer.. Is it just me or is there anyone else who would actually make it a point to know all about a car without having to read the features off the window sticker. Unfortunately I've yet to really have that experience at a dealer lol, but like someone previously said, the dealer makes money when their consumer knows nothing, so i guess they dont need to know anything to work there.

^ easy now, I've been into cars a while now... Not every car salesman is an idiot and wears gold chains.... I'm an idiot with silver ones... LOL ... Seriously I'd talk sports cars all day , but most consumers are buying suv and commuter cars... Most salesman dont need to know much about the sports cars

When I was looking into getting my Evo, I went to a Subaru dealer to compare it to the STI. They let me drive the WRXs all day long, but they had a policy of not letting ANYONE drive STIs because some kid wrecked one on a test drive the previous year.

So I don't blame a dealer if they don't let anyone who isn't serious about buying it behind the wheel. I do blame dealers who refuse to let serious buyers drive the car that they are seriously looking into buying. I walked away form them because I'm not going to buy a car without being able to drive it or one like it. I went to another dealer and test drove it and found that I liked the Evo better.

While I've defended you periodically throughout this thread - I will be the first to say you don't know sh*t about life at your age. Don't sit here and plan out how you're going to live your life after college when it's certainly possible the best job you're going to get is making 10 bucks an hour doing phone support.

If I were you, I'd either not buy the car - or buy the car with a hardcore budget to pay it off in 2-3 years tops. You do *NOT* want to be paying for it beyond that because trust me - one of these days you will want to break the umbilical cord and move out of your parents house.

What the real world has in store for you is a lot of bills and the ability to slam you down into the ground over and over. You don't want to enter that fight with a 700 dollar car payment.

The key is to find both types of Mitsu dealers - those that allow test drives (so you know what that car is like) and those that don't allow test drives (so you can buy one that's never been beat on). I never test drove the evo I eventually bought.

I don't need a test drive, I'm going to buy as soon as I step foot in the dealership in May.

I've been through alot, not enough, but alot. BTW, places like TAG and any other Phone support group pay $14-15 an hour, not 10. there are plenty of jobs that pay $20+ starting off that i am eligible for and whose to say i dont already have one of them. Honestly though, doing the whole $1,300 a month is workable to get it paid off in 2-3 years, but its just not feesible. Would save money in the long run though and be a better plan for the future like you stated.

What i do know is about bills and what things can cost, ive paid them and done all that stuff while my father was between jobs. Living in florida is far from cheap, and when i actually "go out on my own" im moving far away from this hell hole to a place where i can have my nice sports car and other goodies and drive on back roads with no worries and only pay a very low price to live in that area of secluded wonderfulness. Who cares if i have to drive 50 miles to the nearest wal-mart

Either way im not saying i've been through the hells that life can throw at you, ive witnessed them but never been through them all. I've been through more than most my age. Plus, the only reason i bring up the fact of the legitimacy of being able to afford the car is due to someone doubting me. I'm one of those people that will do everything in my power to make people eat their words, regardless sometimes making the event happen without a word said is the best way and that is my next approach.

Sounds good man - just saying don't overextend yourself and get into a position you don't want to be in. You sound like you got your head on straight.

I like the luxury of the G37, but the thrill of the X. I bought the X without test driving as well as the Evo 8 without a test drive. Haven't regretted doing either. This iteration of the Evo has more grownup amenities to it, but still pale in contrast to the G37. I still like the X, but the older and mature I get, the more I have a taste for quality.

I've been in my friends 8/9 and they are sweet little rockets. Why cant i have the leetness of the G37/335i interior with the ***** to the wall driving experience of an evo? WHY!!! damn them all lol. Well i could, but not for the price range i want.

I know its been asked before in posts but how would leasing work? i have no clue how it works. i know you pay a fraction of the cost but only keep the car for 2 years and have an option of buying after. But, how much money do you honestly lose? and what would the gains of it be? anyone mind giving me a little crash course on leasing? Do they even lease X's? im sure they'd lease a G37.

and do you plan to marry her and have a kid in 6 years? buy a house? pay for your kid's college? your retirement? seriously, you're still just a kid. it's nice to have a plan. it's better to have a safety net. you want a nice car, we all do. but suck it up if you honestly can't afford it comfortably. key word, COMFORTABLY!

your examples of people working minimum wage to pay off an evo while living at home is friggin hilarious. would you honestly want to be in that situation? or even remotely close to it? if you work min wage and live at home, you better save your money for school to get a better job. not thinking about buying fast cars and sh*t like that.

everybody loves to brag about what they have, what they can do, or who they know on the internet. the problem is when you do this in real life and end up screwing yourself and your family just to get "props" from people who really don't give a sh*t about you. feels good to get recognition. but at what cost?

i honestly hope you do graduate, get a good job, and have a great life. just don't let your "image" get in front of what's really important. you say you have been through some hard times in your life. it's now your duty to prevent that from ever happening again and especially for that not to happen to your kids. if that means you drive a geo metro and not a evo x, G37, R8, or M3... you drive that damn geo!

yes i sound high and mighty. but you're still very young. making money is never guaranteed and using up all your money can be easier than you think...
