Honestly, whats so bad about walking into a dealer with a family member? It's alot better than walking in alone and asking, then you'd be judged for age and appearance even more. Think about it...

you'd have to know the people. My mom isnt a "mom" shes the daughter of a certified mechanic who owned a garage his entire life, she spent her whole life around cars and then married someone who worked for her father. She has owned Boss's, 911's, Z-28s, Vega's, Nova's you name it, shes probably had it.. even one year she jumped off the american muscle wagon and bought an eclipse, but she did have 2 mustangs and a Blazer at the same time, so she never left the roots.

Regardless to say, like i said, shes not a "mom" shes a knowledgable take-no-**** woman everyone would want to have with them when car shopping.

Yeah i understand, but i'm not going to lie and tell them "im going to buy it today if you let me drive it" just to drive it. thats the kind of bull**** hassle you get at every dealership, they spent the entire time saying "if we give you a good deal will you buy today" "how about if we do this will you buy today" and we said each time "no, we will not buy your car today or even say we will before we've even sat in it or driven it around the parking lot"

They do need to take one and set it aside for a demo car, they'd probably make more sales if they let people drive one car. They had a demo car at the infiniti dealer but they couldnt find it lol, they didnt tell me i just couldnt drive it, they brought me upstairs in their storage and we found one together for me to drive.

did your mom do all the talking and you just sit back or did you do the talking and your mom interjects when needed? big difference.

from the the dealer's perspective was it a mom and her son looking to buy an evo? or some young punk and his mom coming for a free test drive on a hot new sports car? big difference.

i'm sure they see enough "spoiled brats that want mommy to pay for their new car" that you are automatically put into that category and will get NO respect right off the bat. maybe if you go with your dad and he does all the talking....

you aren't doing them any favors by test driving the thing and considering to buy like you would an accord, camry, etc. with a brand new in demand sports car like this it's buy it or goodbye....

i did the talking and she stepped in when she needed to, equal ammount of talking on both our parts. Regardless, when someone looks at your jewelery the entire time you know they are just lookin for your money and couldnt give two ****s. my mom had on 3 diamond rings, a bracelet, a sapphire one, a white gold necklace with a nice sized sapphire heart on it, and while i was talking to the guy all he was doing was moving his eyes back and forth from each piece, this is at dodge btw. Thats why i say hes a sleeze, there was nothing enjoyable about that place.

yep, and people with money aren't shy about putting down a refundable deposit to test drive the car. like many have said, if you aren't serious enough to put money down, you aren't serious enough. again, this isn't a civic. this is a brand new sports car. you don't get test drives that easy with these things. obviously depends on a lot of factors and individual situations but the story as told here is not going to net a test drive in 99% of dealers. give it 1-2 years and it'll be the total opposite. facts of life.

Not in this economy. considering they arent part of the "sports car" market (those are more so vettes, vipers, Ford GT's, etc etc) these are more so the "Sporty" cars market, and there is just as many of those to choose from as there are crappy sedans. BMW, Subby, Mitsu, Lexus, Infiniti, Nissan, Acura, Honda all have a car in that range and i wouldnt buy a single one without driving it and thinking about it for a few days. Only morons who are dead set on a single car without trying anything else go into a dealer and throw their money down for it.

it wasnt a "refundable deposit" it was a "lets sit here and do all the paper work" we werent going to finance with them and thats also what they wanted. There is a way of doing things and thats not the way. People with money and morales also wont bull**** a dealer and waste their time. We told them we were looking at multiple cars and trying to decide which we wanted, we would be selecting one soon, and they decided to not let us test it without the 1-2 hours of paper work.

Also id like to add again the fact that i had called and SCHEDULED a TEST DRIVE. and was asked for all this **** when i got there. I have a life, my time is worth something, and they schedule me for something, invite me over, and then slap me in the face with this disrespectful ****? i think not.

LOL of course not, but the story is told as if he was wronged by the dealer when we all know that he merely wanted to drive the car with NO intent to buy. if i was a dealer i'd do the exact same thing.

plus i never like it when people try to "show off" by mentioning how young they are and how many cars they have yet they fail to mention that they live in their parent's basement. don't act like you're a self made man if you clearly are not or not yet.

this isn't meant to be a personal attack on OP as many people do it here and every other car forum on earth. pet peeve i guess.

ok maybe i wasn't clear enough. the car is brand new. days old. it's historically a fast tuner car. price and who makes it goes out the window when you're dealing with this kinda car. you're not driving it without whipping out some cash. very simple. if it were a vette, viper, ferrari, etc. the case is even worse for a test drive. civic si? sentra SE-R? here are the keys sir...

What does what i currently drive myself have to do with anything? A 5.0 mustang, a classic camaro? those are just mine... the parents have their own cars. You show me someone who is 20 and owns 3 cars. keyword, OWNS.
Wow, somehow I don't believe for a second that you paid for any of those cars yourself... maybe mommy did, but not you. You sound like a spoiled kid. If I was a car salesman and I saw you walk up to me with your mom all blinged out with gaudy jewelry to the max... I'd roll my eyes at you too. You'll probably never understand why some of us are giving you crap because of the way you were probably raised... we can only imagine. Sorry, but you are wondering why you were not given a test drive... this is more than likely why. Do you wear your hat sideways too?

i'm pretty sure any deposit you put down is refundable. if not, walk out immediately.

yes i'd be mad too if i thought i was getting a test drive and nothing happened. but it's totally understandable. once you see that they just baited you in and had no intent on giving you a test drive, leave. very simple. they owe you nothing. you lost nothing. yes you lost time but oh well. lesson learned.
