I am unfamiliar with how exactly the key system works in the JDM Evo X's. But I would imagine it will work a little differently than the US models.

For example, my wife's car, a 2008 Daihatsu Move has a similar feature. But there is no need to touch the handle to unlock the car. It operates off of a proximity sensor, once I'm within a certain distance of the car (about 6ft) it automatically unlocks all the doors, once I walk away, it locks. I know it works this way on most JDM cars that have this sytem, but the Evo might be slightly different.

So I saw this mentioned a few posts back, but I might be misunderstanding. Do you have to lock the USDM Evo X manually by pushing the button on the key fob?

Some cars have the proximity sensor lock/unlock ability such as your wife's Move as well as quite a few corvette's. Mitsu decided not to have it proximity unlock as a safety feature. Its much easier electronically speaking to have a device transmitting codes and just walking around a parking lot waiting for something to open instead of having it transmit codes and physically having to touch a door.

The buttons on the fob are there for the times that you want to maybe open all the locks without you being at the car (say in the rain or snow when your friends/family are racing ahead of you to get in the car), or to lock it behind you if your TT is running your engine for a few seconds as you walk away.

I really want proximity unlocking/starting on my cars, but after watching Clarkson park Hamster's cadillac (I think it was a cadillac...) in the middle of the street I'm going to make damned sure the range isn't all that large

Hold the handle to unlock, press the little black button to lock.

They have buttons on the fob so you can unlock/lock your car from far away?

Anyway, one thing cooler about Lexus's fast key is that it knows when you're nearby so all the lights turn on.

I also enjoy the fast key function. That, and the factory HIDs, and not to mention the wing. Totally worth the extra 2 grand..
