Evo X official paint issues/problems thread {merge}
Agreed. And after driving in the salt of Ohio it pinpoints the weak spots prone to chipping. I will post a pic asap. Its not for weak stomachs.
paint chips Evo-X
This problem is common with many sports cars in cluding the EVO-X. Porche uses larger Vynel sections to resolve this problem.
I own a vynel graphics company in PA, (and PA roads are not kind to cars even in the summer), and have made kits to fix such problems. Check your local sign shop and see if they have clear vynel used for protecting sign graphics. Many can make custom shapes to fit your application.
I am working on a fix for my own EVO-X and when finalized I will let everyone on here know.

It's so frustrating, my entire hood has chips all over it from rock spray from other cars. Honestly, I have never experienced anything like this with all the other Sh*ty cars I have had. I really wish there was something we could do about this like address a formal complaint to Mitsu including the bill for repainting our cars. So lame
My questions are coming from an 04 Evo 8 owner. Is the paint at least a bit better than what they used on the 8 or 9? Is it super thin and soft again?
Does PB suffer from micro-abrasions and other annoying hairline scratches easily?
Is there actually clear coat on the entire car this time? Unlike my 8 that paint came off the side view mirrors when buffed.
I have nearly 12k on my PB and no scratches. The paint is thin like it is on the VIII/IX. The X has the rock spray from the front wheels hitting the back of the car at the back doors, but mud flaps will cure this.
My hood is flawless FWIW, I think its driving conditions.

My PB paint is in good shape but that's because I have layers of wax and sealant. It's definately the softest paint on a car I've ever owned and scratches very easliy. It doesn't chip nearly as bad as new Subaru paint which is probably the best example of the worst automotive paint available but is equally as soft and nearly just as bad. 2010 or aero side skirts will help better than mudflaps but the best way to go is both with addidional 3M film.
I suppose I'll look at getting some of that clear guard put on the rear doors then too, just in case.
Are you talking about the driver's side rear door as you shouldn't get chips on the front doors. The fixes have been listed numerous times in this thread. You either get the flaps and 3M or accept that the rear lower doors are going to take a beating.
I have a 2010 Evo X SE, octane blue. Just bought it on September 18th. I have 1,000 miles on it and have even taken it to Firebird Raceway (East track) for a track day. I live in Phoenix Arizona. I think the roads are pretty good quality and we obviously don't have to deal with any snow. I just had a second set of new tires put on (long story) and each time with the new tires you can hear a lot of little clicks against the doors and other parts as small rocks are thrown off the tires, but so far I don't have a single scratch.

I finally feel everyone else's pain on this. I had to travel on a long (8 mile) gravel road two weekends ago and my rear door and spats got beat to hell. Rocks ripped right through the clear surface protector too!
I don't like mudflaps but damn, I guess I better get over that quick!
Sadness.
