Evo X official paint issues/problems thread {merge}
I know this thread has been bumped to death but I'm gonna try this thing I found on the net called dr.colorchip. The kit is relatively cheap at $60 for there road rash kit. The general consensus on this product is mostly positive with a few having negative reviews. What it does is fill the chip with their paint that they mix in house. You apply with a brush and then smear the paint over the chip with your thump (using the nitrile glove provided). There are some nice demo videos on YouTube and ,if you search on google, there's plenty of people who've tried it on various cars and different colors.
I know plenty of people on here have complained one time or another about the paint quality/chipping on our cars. So I'm definately willing to try something other then a paint pen that globs up. Check it out. I've ordered mine already. I'll let you guys know how it comes out.

Please do update. My MR is apex silver too. I am very interested in how it turns out!

Thanks!
I would say to blame the paint mitsubishi uses. Its absolute crap. The paint on my old cavalier could handle anything short of a creased body panel and light scratches could buff out but with my gfs 2010 lancer the lightest slide across a dusty part of the car and the paint would scratch to the primer. They seemed to have put one coat of paint with the thinnest clear possible if any. and I would be willing to be the paint may just be sharpie ink. Man they are cheap with that stuff. (i understand the lacer is cheap and they spare every expense but it seems like the Xs are not much better. Interestingly my IX MR has no problems and I have put it through the some fun times.
^--- You'll find that MOST car manufacturers are the same way.
Old paint had different chemicals in it vs the stuff that is being used today that "is more environmental friendly". Everyone seems to have jumped on this band wagon.

After 12k miles, not 1 chip on the sides. I suggest this set up if you're worried about chips.
very simple. you don't want road rash, you gotta put on a clearbra like porsche. i had it put on back door and fender in front of rear wheel when the front bra was installed, also backs of mirrors by doug @ execpaintpro.com
first long distance trip and a big chunk of wood/gravel hit the top of the front of the hood and then 'bamm!" against the windshield--fortunately it didn't chip the window. made about a 1/2" scratch in the clearbra--easy enough to buff out, hate to think what would have happened otherwise.
the mitsu paint is similar to other waterbased paints -- a lot thinner, softer, on top of plastic -- forget about it.

Well I ended up ordering the Dr ColorChip Road Rash kit for my Rally Red and gave my baby a spring cleaning today followed up by a polish and application of the Dr ColorChip kit. Like most folks I had plenty of road rash (MN winters are killer).
I tried out the color on a couple small chips on the hood first since a couple people complained that the P26 color did not match well. My matched perfectly. The process is very simple, apply paint, smudge, wait til dry, apply their blending solution (some sort of solvent), and buff off with MF cloth. The results were great, so I moved on to the rocker panels. It took a while to apply and smudge all the paint (instructions recommended using an old t-shirt to apply for large areas but I didn't have anything handy). Waited about 10 mins, then removed the excess. The results were pretty good. It doesn't look brand new like their pictures, but it definitely removes the white "rash" look which is all I was going for. I may try applying another coat in a week or so, it's not too much work.
I only ended up using about 10% of my paint and maybe 15% of the solvent, so buying the road rash kit was definitely overkill.
In the end it definitely looks better, was worth the money and only took probably an hour from start to finish.

no matter what i did by hand the paint looked horrible on my rear doors. Buuutt i recently purchased an orbital and found it worked great on there. Just make sure you clean it thoroughly and claybar before trying it out! I'll post some pics later tonight when i get home, but most of the rock chips were not even noticeable anymore.
Hey man. Sorry I missed your original post but sounds like you went ahead with your purchase and had great results with it. I ordered the road rash kit myself bit has been sitting on my bookcase since I bought it. Another person had asked me if the silver matched up well and I have to admit, I haven't even opened the bottle of paint yet (lol) ,let alone, touch up any chips. The weather just started getting nice here in Boston again, so maybe after I clay the car, I'll be able to give some feedback.
ever use "color magic" wax? Seems a little cheap but maybe fill in the "cat wisker" scratches. My new MR-T came with a 12 in scratch across trunk. Never buy a car at night evn if new I guess.
What I have noticed on my X is that the front bumper does not hold up against the elements of interstate driving. WW Evo X Front Bumper and I have a million little chips on the front of the car. Crazy. The paint should soo be tougher. Or I should have bought a 3M clear bra for the front from the jump off
