EVO X - Gas Mileage?
I know Mitsubishi knows about American highways, because my car has cruise control.
I would have liked a wide-ratio transmission with 1st gear shorter, and 5th gear a lot taller.
EDIT: I see that Sheptrans can change the 5th gear ratio, but not in the direction I want.

Then, when I think about doing something with the gears, it seems like a lot of money to spend and I don't know how much money I'll save on gas.
...So, I'll be interested in your results, KRome.

Meanwhile, I'll remind myself that my car loan is paid off, and it doesn't have any mechanical problems.

When mine was stock it got around 20mpg in town. After i got it tuned it stayed about the same. Installed a roof rack with two bike racks and a fairing and now it gets around 18mpg, and 16mpg with bikes on top.
Yep. I can go into 5th gear at less than 40mph. 5th gear in my Evo feels like 4th in one of my Nissans.

You'd be surprised how much of a difference 500RPM drop will make. I know it's a poor comparison but, the 5th gear in my civic was very short with a 4.7 final drive and when I added a 6th gear from a TSX and used the 4.3 final drive ring from a base RSX, I dropped 1500 RPM at cruising speed and was able to achieve 35+mpg with over 400WHP on tap.
Keep in mind, yes my civic weighs under 2800lbs with me in it and it is front wheel drive, but I have faith that with the offerings Sheptrans has, I can change my 21-22 & 24-26 to in the ballpark of 24-26 and 27-29mpg with the Evo.
I also plan on getting some 17" wheels that will clear the calipers, I tried to test fit my 17" RPF1's but the offset (+45) was too high and the inner wheel wouldn't clear. I believe a lower offset 17" wheel is possible to further help economy and keep the quick acceleration of the car.
Maybe with a tune I might just be able to break 30mpg, we'll see. I know this is a rally car for the road but you CAN have power and economy, you just have to figure out what works.
I've got 2300 miles on mine since July 16th and when I checked today average speed is 44 MPH and 27 MPG. How is that even possible?
Must be because of my break-in period driving granny shifting not double clutching like I should.

Gallon for gallon, ethanol has half the chemical energy of gasoline.
Since most of us are now running on 10% ethanol (whether we like it or not), that means we get 5% less gas mileage than we would a few years ago.
One of the main reasons cars run on gasoline is it's high "energy density".
The big advantage of running on alcohol is that you can turn up the boost and advance the spark more. Other than that, I've heard & read a few E85 users saying their fuel isn't cheap enough to make up for the loss of fuel mileage.
If we want to grow our own fuel, I think we ought to get away from this corn ethanol nonsense, and make more soy diesel.
