Well it looks like no one knows. So some one is going to have to be the test dummy. Who is it going to be.

lol...dude, I just posted what needs to be done. Its exactly what I had to do on my GTI.

Obviously its not being performed on a Evo X but it would be the same. All it is is fooling the ECU to think that they're still connected.

I'll find out what specific resistor is needed.

Easy fix....... There should only be two wires going to the old airbag. Use an ohm meter to see how much resistence there is between the two wires (on the airbag side, not the car side). Use a resistor of the same ohms.

OK, but the factory service manual says specifically to NOT do this, because the current supplied by the multimeter to measure the voltage drop will fire the air bag in the seat.

I suspect the best method is to just trial and error a bunch of different resistor values until one is found that works.

Third is most likely the load sensor in the seat, which tells the computer if the airbag circuit should be on or off. Sometimes when my wife rides in my car and slouches or leans over, etc, the airbag light will show the airbag is disabled since it thinks she is not heavy enough to trip the load sensor in the passenger seat.

yea i've seen that happen with my girl in the car too but why is there a load sensor on the driver side?

Maybe for midgets?

edited: OK I was thinking about this more. In Japan, UK, etc, the cars are all right hand drive. In those markets, the passenger air bag sensor needs to be on the left side. I bet they are just shipping one wiring harness and one set of seats with load sensors, rather than two part numbers, one for each market. Would be interesting if someone could cross reference USDM part numbers to JDM or EDM part numbers and confirm.

That is why you use an analog and not a digital. Just like then checking ignition coils.

The reason an analog ohm meter is used for checking a coil, transfomer, whatever, is because the analog meter puts out a higher voltage drop, and therefore more current, than a digital meter. How will this NOT fire an air bag? There seems to be no real difference to me.

Because the driver side airbag will always be enabled... you need a driver to drive the car right

Here is the link on how to do the install. I have done it on three cars. Only difference I noticed was the resistors. Each car to a different ohm resistors.

3.3 ohms. Not 3.3k ohms
