I don't have an answer to this question, but I know mitsu says failure to use synthetic oil may damage the engine, turbocharger and components.

I do know that a few guys have broken their car in with dino oil. Some claim that synthetic oil is too good and it does not allow the rings to seat as well as dino oil. I personally will do whatever mitsu says because afterall they built the vehicle.

 

OEM Fluids are Synthetic... True Synthetics have a much higher ability to hold up to the extreme temps of the turbo and not coke like a petroleum oil.
