Clay bay question
Clay bay question
I got to my car yesterday after work to find a nice surprise. someone traded paint with my back driver side bumper (the plastic part) and scraped up my rear diffuser. it is minor but still an eye sore. it's ww with yellow paint marks.
my question is: what can i use to get the yellow off? I was able to scratch out the majority of the yellow by hand but don't want to get medieval and make it worse. i don't care about the scrathes in the paint as long as they are colorless.
would using a clay bar fix this? also any advice for smoothing out the rear diffuser? like using fine grit sanding (and specifically what level of grit?)?
also any advice on finding wicked white touch up paint on the internet?
any input is appreciated. sorry no pics.

not clay, just get a light buffing compound and microfiber cloth. carefully buff out the yellow paint, dont stress.... and please dont use any sand paper LOL. thats not necessary.
I've used Mequires paint cleaner to with a lot of success to get really bad marks off paint. Clay bar will help to smooth the paint and take any real deep dirt and grime off the paint, but for something like paint it generally doesn't work as well as a buffing/polishing type compound does.
Yes, that works too. I think it's called Clay Magic but not really sure. Actually it works well in combination with the paint cleaner. Alternate between the two until the paint is gone.

You'll need an abrasive to get off paint. By abrasive I mean a polishing compound of some sort. Definitely not as aggressive as sandpaper. Claybar doesn't really do that, it really just lifts bonded impurities on the paint surface. But trying would not hurt, I just don't think it will do the trick.
I had this happen to mine a while back, Shortly after my car got broken into and my car had to go to a body shop for some dash work. They were able to buff most out with their industrila gear. might want to stop by a locall body shop and see if you can get them to buff it out for you cheap.

thanks for all the input. it is exactly what i was looking for.
i think a few misunderstood what i meant with the sand paper. i am talking about mildly mangled/scratched black plastic rear diffuser. it isn't painted so i wanted to try something to have it smoothed out or blended in. would really fine grit sand paper help?
i've been searching for wicked white touch up paint for the X. i can't find it. anyone know anything about that?

there was post that was deleted in here with the part number for the color pen for wicked white. anybody know where i can find that or have it to post up?
mods seem to delete and move stuff around in here a lot....little frustrating.

oh i gotcha.... when it comes to plastic, yeah you can lightly sand it but then those portions may look dull. then buy a product like turtle wax ice and give a nice thick layer on the diffuser. turtlewax ice isnt a great sealant but it does an awesome job with plastic
its my secret weapon when i detail my engine bay too with all the plastic and rubber in there, just dont tell anyone haha
