Request: Interior painting

Whats up? I know the basics for painting pieces of my interior. My main question has to do with sanding. Is 220 grit the best choice? Also how long should I sand the pieces before priming? Just until they roughen up or? Also anybody got any specific brand reccomendations for the paint? It seems like duplicolor has some pretty good products. Thanks for the assist.

If you want it to come out really clean looking, I'd say 220 is okay just for scuffing up the plastic before you primer. From then on I would use 400 or higher, but that is only because that's what I learned in my auto collision repair class. I would sand the primer with 400 or higher to get the scratches to be less noticable. Then when painting, do light coats. Oh yeah, and just sand the pieces until you don't see anymore "glossy-ness". You know, how you can tell that you hit every spot.

im a big krylon fusion fan, i havent done my interior yet, but it works really well on most plastics, then their satin semigloss would probably make it look really good

Sounds good guys. Thanks for the advice. Gonna work on it either this weekend or the next. I'll post pics when I finish.

Yeah, if you are going with rattle can stuff, do it with the Krylon Fusion. I've heard nothing but good news about it when it comes to plastics.

Good luck!

Cool...I'll go with the krylon most likely. Hopefully I'll have a nice yellow accented interior to match my yellow exterior. If not...I'll be in the market for an interior trim kit, lol.

Don't worry...I will. Hopefully it'll come out as a masterpiece and not a disaster though.

Finished half of my painting project this weekend. I'll post pics soon as I can. It didn't come out as good as I wanted but I think it looks damn good for my first try at it. On the flip side though, when I took off the dash piece in front of my hVAC control, I saw that the clips holding the plastic piece that all the knobs and stuff are hooked into were pretty much all gone! Definitely not cool. I'm gonna hafta take the dash apart again and pull the pice forward moe cause all my HVAC knobs are dully lit at nite now. Not a big deal but still an annoyance.

Yeah, I could imagine how easily the white must get dirty. What do you use when you clean it?
