You could always use a maxi-pad to put over your shift knob.....

I had a UV front window tint and my aluminum shift knob never really got hot at all. I had to get my windshield replaced recently, so I don't have the tint anymore. I think the shift knob is going to be burning hot this summer. The tint isn't legal in Texas, but it does amazing stuff. Of course, the tint won't help in the winter.

i just unscrew mine and take it into work or the house with me. keep it with my keys. i got tired of my hands freezing and burning.....
