All and all I need an AWD vehicle up here in Mass, and since I have always perferred driving a "sporty" vehicle, my only choices really were the STI or the Evo X. I test drove both cars, and both cars were awesome, but IMO Subaru really screwed the pooch with the redesign of the 2008 STI...I just don't like hatchbacks...period.
In the end the Evo's new body style, the fact that it's slightly quicker around the track than the STI, and the 0% financing swayed me to buy the Evo.

And I agree completely with you. Those three reasons are good reasons for getting the X, they are (roughly) why I bought the VIII instead of an '03-'04 STi. Except the 0% financing was just a super awesome Mitsu Friends/Family discount. Ah the days when you could get a brand new VIII for 27k out the door
And they're the same reasons I got the STi, just flipped slightly: I love the hatchback (especially now that I got tint and tail overlays) over the X's looks, it is nicer to drive around town than the Evo, and it comes with a warranty . But really the main thing was looks, I like the X (excluding the part of it) but I have always loved fast hatchback/wagons, and when Subie redesigned the STi like this I decided I had to have one.

My 2007 WRX Limited was a quick little bugger. On a "Heartbreaker" dyno, at Stage 2 it put down 237 whp and 292 ft lb. Those flat 2.5L motors are real torque monsters, plus my WRX was about 200 lb lighter. Out of the hole, I still feel my old WRX was a wee bit quicker, but after 75 ft or so my Evo would have overtaken it.

It's been 1.2 years...and I'm still in love with it. I'm starting to think more so than even my VIII.
I think once the 3076R goes in...I'm going to want to marry the darn thing. I don't think there is any other car on the market within my price range that I would even consider over the X.

I don't know. I doubt it would be able to get such a deal as I got on mine...
I love it mechanically, the SAWD, and it handles better than anything I've ever driven in, even on my F1 all seasons....
However, I thought I could get used to the low tech, cheap interior. Turns out I like the creature comforts. I guess it serves me right since I used to own a couple of nice Acuras.

Anyway, back on topic... I love my X more than I first bought it 8 months ago, because of all the mods that has been added since.
