Wet track was probably the cause of it (they state it also in every page) of all the 20 cars they had, only the first 3 RWD had a chance at a drag run, the rest had to be postponed cause of the rain, but they went on with the AWD tests anyways on wet pavement

and yeah I also thought their numbers where all weird, every single car they tested was about 1-2 seconds slower than any other test conducted by other car mags lol

"less tire choices" on the GT-R review.

LOL, nice grammar. This is journalism at its best.

That's actually an editorial mistake but really a pretty small one and not worth a post if you ask me.

Actually the MR & GTR numbers in particular are very impressive considering they were conducted on a wet track. Still trying to figure out how the heavier MR was faster and dynoed higher than the GSR. Can't imagine that it comes down to the simple answer of it having a more aggresive tune as it doesn't make sense to purposely detune the GSR which has the stronger transmission. I wonder if they upgraded the turbo to make the MR more worthy of the massive hike in price.

That might be it, but don't you think it's worthless or nonsense for Mitsubishi to upgrade it's turbo, add more power to the MR trim, and don't change it's advertised numbers?; at least would get people more interested knowing their 2010 MR model's got an extra 30 horses...

But is even advertising it's 2010 MR yet? So far it seems like everything has been rumors.

Yeah that's right... I forgot they haven't officially released the 2010, so there shouldn't be any numbers yet lol

I wouldn't be surprised, and even for the '08s it seems that most of the camparos were done with the MR, so that's probably what Mitsu was providing to journalists. I imagine it's been pretty embarrassing for them to go around claiming how fast and advanced the MR's transmission is, only to have it get beaten in nearly all tests by the lowly 5spd.

Making the MR a bit hot compared to the GSR would seem like the perfect solution for them.

They probably do care... problem is they're bleeding bad and money is probably scarce

im sure its the exact same engine/turbo, only difference is maybe a different stock tune, but if that was the case they would have a reflash for the 08s too, its not like they changed the actual ECU or anything

i have seen this thread a few time, and never really thought much of it. well today i decided what the hell, i will check it out. after reading over the options, i only saw one i was interested in...the center console storage. in fact, i was a little dissapointed in ALOT of the options. rain sensing wipers...useless. if you cant see that its raining, you might not want to be driving. odor de-composing headliner...seriously? and i know people like their moon roofs, but it adds considerable weight in the worst place to add weight to. i am sorry to rant, but what happened to the evo? maybe im the last of a dying breed, but my ideal daily/track car is a stripped out model. honestly, i would love an 05 rs with the a/c and power steering removed, and just a driver and passenger seat. no rockford (junk) stereo, no worthless sound deadening, etc. again, sorry to rant, but i just cant stand what has become of the automotive industry. /rant also, i am sorry if any of this has already been mentioned.

Upgrading the turbo would cost Mitsu a lot of $$$ in production cost. The cheapest way for them to squeeze out 30 more HP is a better tune, cuz that will practically cost them nothing. It has already been known for sometime that there will be no mechanical changes for the coming 2010 models.

-edit-
It's a known fact that both current GSRs & MRs have $h1tty pig rich factory tunes... it's also a known fact that the MR is slower on a straight line compared to the GSR because of its heavier weight even though they basically put out the same crank HP (291). It would be logical for them to improve the MR's tune, thus increasing the horsepower a little bit.... so on the 2010s, the MR wouldn't be slower than a GSR anymore... so GSR owners can stop bashing MR owners about how slow "off the line" the MR is. Easy to comprehend if Mitsu is actually doing this for the new models to compensate for even more weight on the MRs since those are getting sunroofs & addittional gizmos. Think about it!
