All JDM IX and prior models for RS trim had 15" steelies as standard.
Also note that the tires are skinnier, calipers and rotors are lighter, but all that junk are supposed to be tossed anyways for much better aftermarket parts.
Whether the brakes + tire + wheel were lighter in GSR or RS doesn't matter. For IV to X had 100 to 110kg difference between RS with steelies and standard GSR version (X's Premium trim for GSR and SST would make the difference bigger) and 70-80kg difference once the wheels and brakes are replaced with GSR counterparts.
Also note that Evo isn't the only one that offers stripped version for less price, STI has Spec C, Civic Type R has race base (new FD2 one called 'Make One' or something). I guess they are little different than the fancier cars such as NSX vs NSX-R, 911 vs 911 GT3, F430 vs 430 Scuderia, where they add slightly improved performance parts in addition to stripping, then jack up the price.

its like in Canada.......when your MR get the sunroof, you loose the alumi roof......so you get a steel one instead.......if not its a alumi roof...

I actually dont mind all these cool things there puting in the car....
At least everyone has a choice if they dont want all these gadgets they can get another modle instead of the MR
However weight is the only issue here they need to figure out a way to reduce the weight with all the stuff added in it.
