Daily Driving and Reliablity

Im coming from a turbo 240sx and in the market of getting an Evo X as my next ride. How is the reliablity of the Evo X in the long run? I won't be modding it a whole lot maybe just an exhaust and intake and possibly suspension work if i need it for track use. I just want some insight on those who noticed any problems on a stock evo x daily driving it.

good to hear, is the factory tune not so great that it ideally needs a retune or is only with mods that would benefit from the tune? Could a stock evo be good to handle track days on some occasions without like a oil cooler?

I've had my X for about 8 months now. I drive a lot. I just rolled over 20k miles yesterday. Most of the miles are highway, but I certainly have done my share of spirited driving as well. I've had minor bolt-ons and a tune for ~ 15k of those 20k miles. I've had no issues with reliability.

for a car that can potentially catch fire, broken hood latches, and staples sticking out of the seats, it drives pretty damn reliably, provided you know how to drive it. i'd say the evo is a bit more selective in its driver; those that complain about burnt clutches and broken transfer cases are usually those that thinks it "should drive the same as a civic" (not that the civic's a bad car...)

there hasn't been any major issues, imo, but many small issue. It could come across as a nuance to some as you would need to make many trips to the dealership.

issues with the evo (at this point) are the same issues that any new vehicle develops over 1-2 years. As a daily driver this has been the most entertaining vehicle I have owned in 8 years, including my never to be missed vette, viper, and cobra. maybe the viper, but only once per 6 months or so.

I've dd'd mine for over 11 mos. now. Perfect reliability so far, only down time has been to dealer for recalls. I need my car for every day use so I treat it with respect. I spent too much money on this car to abuse it.

I'm in a similar boat as you,

Minor mods, and need it to last me a while and it's been holding up well...

There are a few TSBs that have come out, but nothing major and yours will already have them taken care of...

Like most people have been saying, little miniscule problems here and there. Some rattling, maybe some pieces falling off prematurely, but nothing noteworthy yet from the drivetrain or engine. @ 5014 miles, had it since June of this year and I use it as a DD.

Had mine since May of 08, rolling 27k miles, use it as a daily driver, track car and autocross car (in BSP this year).

Perfectly reliable.
