thanks for the replies. as for the limited trunk space someone brought up, it won't be an issue, we have a Honda Pilot in the household for that. without leading this into some evo vs subie thing, , generally speaking EVO motors are more reliable than Subaru's boxer turbo? i've heard a lot of blown turbos on the new WRXs over at the Subaru forum. reason i ask is my other choice would be the new STi limited edition which can be had for about $30k. i'm new to both brands, so there's no bias from my end, yet.
Mines a daily driver, 90 miles round trip to work and back. I have to fill up Monday morning, then again on Thursday morning. My only complaint is the gas mileage, obviously. Other than that, no complaints.
But after tax season, I will be getting a peice of crap small truck like a S-10, Mazda B series, Ranger, etc. for my daily driver. Better gas mileage, and a truck bed for those all important trips to Home Depot. Cause I have yet to figure out how to get a 4'x8' sheet of plywood in the Evo X.

I DD mine, that's the reason I got it. To use. I've had zero reliability issues and it doesn't seem like too many people have if the car is not modded too extremely or abused. The main expense so far over a "normal" car is tire replacement but that goes with any enthusiast car w/ summer hp tires and/or winter only tires. Insurance is low for me cause I'm 50.
I had an 02 WRX for 3 years but I always wished I had gotten an Evo VIII instead. Drive the new WRX/STI and then an Evo. I love driving so I got the Evo. Good luck with your decision.

I think the normally aspirated Imprezas are good cars...a few of the local Mitsu guys have them as winter cars. I had a 96 for five years before the head went on it. I left it totally stock and had no major problems before 100k miles.
I chose the Evo over the STi based on looks. Older STis look quite good but I don't like the current one at all.

I might pick up a 240 for a secondary car. I don't drive my car into Philly. So it'd be nice to have a beater 240 to brush up against curbs and fit in tiny spots in the city. BUT knowing myself I'd probably end up dumping $10,000 worth of mods into the 240
But I definitely do want a beater car. I want to paint the wheels myself and put a bunch of stickers on it.

I DD my evo. I've had no trouble with it. The interior seems to be better put together compared to my old mazdaspeed3, as it doesn't rattle of make funny noises when the temperatures get below -10C. No complaints on it really its great on fuel (i can get 10L/100Kms or 22 mpg? in the city), and very fast when I want it to be. Perfect winter sports car, awesome summer cruiser.
My only complaint is getting in and out, the recaros are great whe you're driving but sometimes when its snowy and sliperry out it kinda gets in the way. definitely a sports car you can drive every day.

i DD my evo and its a great DD. The only bad thing about the evo is the gas millage. My lifetime average is 17mpg. Just realize that the evo is a gas guzzler and it is a sun 20mpg car.
It's fine as a DD. I've been using mine as a DD for 7 months now with no major problems. You might eventually want to switch out the stock tires for something more comfortable. There are some minor issues with the build quality of the car (rattles, plastic body pieces splitting at their clips, and side skirts sagging over time), and the suspension is just a tad bit stiffer than desired on the occasional rough road or pothole, but if you just keep the car in reasonably good condition, you should be fine.
i have an Acura TSX now. Its not super luxurious but i assume it is more so than an evo. A few months after owning it i wanted to go faster. Needless to say, theres not much you can do with the car thats worth it.
I know where my priorities are. I am more of a performance person and im sure that a DD evo would suit me. The only thing i would do is make sure to get a relatively quiet exhaust.

I bought a pos jeep to drive just so the Evo stays in the garage whenever possible....
