Sunroof/MoonroofRattle
Sunroof/MoonroofRattle
I know there are various common rattle in the interior of the EVO X. I have the glovebox and sunroof rattles. I put foam on the glovebox so hopefully that's fine.
However, I have one in the sunroof that I can't figure out. Sometimes I get a rattle from what sounds like the back edge of the sunroof. I feel a thin metal bar at the back edge of the sunroof and when I hold it down the sound stops. Problem is the area is tight and that bar moves with the sunroof so it's hard to see what's going on. Plus it also only happens occasionally so that makes it even harder to find.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

My wife's car got a leaky sunroof from the factory. It's not an evo but I never got any cars with a sun/moon roof ever since. I wonder how many times I even opened it after the car was purchased.
Well I've been going thru trying to fix things myself. With previous cars... when you send them into the dealer for TSB's... they may not come back in completely the same condition.
So I was just hoping somebody would be able to identify the source of this rattle.

Just a quick run on some vehicles I've owned with sunroofs:
1994 Civic sun roof rattle; check
1998 Eclipse GST sun roof rattle; check
Wife's 2002 Mazda Protege 5 sun roof rattle; check
2005 SRT-4 sun roof rattle; check
Wife's 2007 Outlander sun roof rattle; surprisingly no
There is always a very good chance that a sunroof on any car will rattle however I've never had an issue with leaks on any of my cars with OEM sunroofs.

Open the sunroof completely to expose as much of the track as possible.
Take a rag with some good cleaning fluid and thoroughly clean the track which is exposed on both sides and the front.
When completely dry, use MR MIN furnature polish and lubricate the tracks.
Don't wipe it dry. MR MIN is a furnature polish we get in South Africa in an aerosol can. This fixed my rattle in May 2008 and it is still quiet.
