i do remember hearing something about the pins in the gearbox or something, but i think that's only a launching issue?

+1, no matter how much slower manual ever becomes, i will always prefer manual over any dual clutch setup. i just enjoy rowing gears on my own better.

link here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...solutions.html i guess it's a center diff thing, not a transmission issue

X tranny can handle tons of power. Unlike Suby where once you mod you need to start saving for a new tranny. Stripped 2nd gear in my WRX 5 days after I had it tuned.

EVO MR SST is Expensive to fix, so get a GSR

Did you know that once your MR EVO X SST clutch goes out it cannot be replaced except replacing the whole transmission, its also not covered under warranty because its considered a wear and tear item on the vehicle. Plus the chances of the SST Clutch going out before your warranty ends is slim, it typically will wear out after 3k miles. Have you check the transmission for the MR SST is 11k, hopefully this has shed some light go get a GSR. If you don't believe me call the dealer and check how would they replace an SST clutch once its worn? This will make Mitsubishi go broke!

This is my only car that was not a manual transmission and I miss having better control of the car...especially during those merging into traffic situations where the MR just slips the clutch like a rookie driver and make me grow a few more gray hairs. I also thought the 6th gear would give me some advantage in highway mileage but I drive about 85% freeway and still get about 20MPG...so the little advantage, if any, I'm not seeing.

That being said I need some info. I did some searching but would like some updated info on the manual trans in the GSR. I drove a few before buying the MR and to be honest I never liked the feel of the shifter or clutch...to me the cars I drove felt like the shifter was very weakly built and I also felt the trans even grind a little even after getting to operating temperature...something I never felt in any previous car.

Now, I'm sure the trans is strong (seeing all the high HP GSR's around the boards) but I would like to know if these issues I found are normal and not a reliability issue and thus a good aftermarket shifter "fix" what I felt... or are others having issues with the trans?

Also, is me or does the clutch engage much further to the top of the throw than other cars? I almost stalled a GSR when I test drove it the day I got the MR (and I was driving my manual trans vette daily).

I owned several others cars (last two were a 08' Vette and a 05' STi) and I never issues with the transmission. Even the so called "Glass" transmission in my 04' WRX never gave me an issue.

Either way, like to know your experiences with the GSR's transmission/Clutch/Shifter in the OEM state. I plan on changing cars in a month or so as I am getting tried of the SST...nice transmission but I prefer manual. Also, I have grown use to the great handling these cars have over all the cars I have own and would prefer to stay with an EVO if the transmission is reliable. Thanks.

I would have liked to get the GSR, but I have a wife who doesn't know manual, and she is one that I am not willing to try and teach to drive it. and since I am trying to get back in the military she needs to be able to drive both vehicles. but with the MR I don't drive it barely in automatic, I am always driving with the paddles and in sport mode. but do miss my Manual from my VIII.

I was surprised this thread was brought back to life.

Anyway, I still have the MR and so far I have grown to really like SST. I have learned to adjust my driving to compensate for the way the SST engages the Clutch Packs from a stand still. Yes, I believe I miss spoke in the first post...The SST (as far as I know) has two sets of Clutch Packs, one for each set of gears....And, the clutches in the Packs can be replaced...SSP sells them.

Right now I am on the fence about what to do with the car. I would be happy to keep it and mod it or buy something else. I have learned to like the Duel Clutch tech in these cars and I may even get a similar setup in a M3 or GT-R, but I may also get a manual again.

Either way once given a chance these Automatics are great transmissions...but they still need some work in the after market to really have control on the software but I know that there are many people working on that.

Lastly, it is always good to remember...when someone mods their car its wise to also have the funds to repair what breaks...Drive Safe.
