Ocassional Hard starting

Just realized I misspelled occasional in title but it will not let me edit that.

Maybe 1 of 50 (guess) starts, my car 2008 GSR has trouble starting. I think this is some kind of computer glitch. I think this is maybe a common problem. Note: I have all the computer updates.

I think I have determined the problem, sometimes when starting I think it injects too much fuel (flooded) and does not want to start.

When this happens I hold the gas to the floor for a few seconds while cranking, then stop cranking turn off key and back on and it will start more normal at that point.

If I do not use this method it could run the battery down before starting especially in the winter.

Does anyone else have any comments on this problem or alternative techniques to getting the car to start.

I've gotten in the habit of turning on the key, waiting for the clicks from the fuel pump, THEN starting it. Every time I'd hurry to start and just crank it, I'd have random issues. When it's cold, I'm more methodical about it. Especially when the car hasn't been in the garage all night.

Could it be spark plug related? The inconsistency of your problem would point towards 'no', but might be worth checking/changing them out

best practice right here. I've been in this habit since my turbo integra.

Always better to let the fuel pump prime before trying to crank it. Get in, turn it to acc, put seatbelt on, by the time you do that, should be good.

Thanks I'll try that.

I have the same problem. 2008 GSR here too and always did it. Dealer thought it was related to the relay TSB but my car still has the problem after they changed them. I do have the latest rom 52680020. Weather doesn't seem to be the cause since I have this problem either when cold or hot, rain or shine.

The procedure I use to get it started is the one in the opening post. So I had to conclude that it was one of two things: either it was flooded or it had no fuel. I will try to notice next time it happens if I was too hasty and didn't give the fuel pump enough time to prime itself.

This is a common problem on cars that are not tuned.

Some people are under the misconception that tuning the car is only for power. Not true. A tuned car is smoother, starts better, and will get better gas mileage. The Mitsu tunes have priorities other than making the car run well, such as emissions.

Wasnt there some fuel pump relay issue on the X's?
Did you replace fuel pump relay or check if its working well by swapping with headliht relay?
