manufacture date
No, the US did not have a 2009 model. Cars usually start manufacturing around middle of previous year for next model year, sometimes earlier depending. We already have a 2012 VW EOS on the lot. It is a 2010, he is not lying.
Even though there was no 2009 model year for the US a dead simple way to verify the model year is to look at the VIN plate on the driver's side door compartment. On the frame right beside the seat it will have the VIN and the manufacture date. If the date is August 2009 - July 2010, then it is a 2010 model year car. Same applies for 2011's (August 2010 - July 2011).
Also 2010 SE's were manufactured late in the model year (June 2010-July 2010) but are still considered 2010s.
Hope this helps.
