New to tuning, have a few questions

I'm thinking about getting a tune probably at Iveytune soon since their the closest so I have a few questions before I do anything. I plan to keep my car as a daily driver so I'm looking to get some good numbers, but keep or gain a little gas mileage too.

I got a Borla cat-back and a K&N drop-in on my car. I was thinking whether or not to get a K&N typhoon system it seems like a good deal for $250 at a local Auto zone. My question is would there be a significant difference in hp gains from the drop-in to the intake?

So should I keep the drop-in or get the typhoon before I get a tune to see the best results when I eventually do tune it?

Also I have an MR, should I be concerned with anything SST wise I'm sure the power gains wouldn't hurt the transmission with such minimal mods right??

Lastly, whats a rough estimate of the gains i can expect? I don't know what kind of power i got from the Cbe or the drop in but what range should i be in after a tune with those mods? Would it be possible to be around 300whp/290 torque?

Thanks, help will be greatly appreciated!

There should be a pretty good gain switching to an intake from a panel filter. From what I've seen (without a tune), a panel with net you 5-7 hp while an intake will net you 15-20 hp.

Full Intake system will def add you more hp then drop in. Also depends on what kind. Personaly I'm a fan of the Injen set-up, but to his is own. The Evo's are nice because they respond so well to basic bolt ons and additions. Depending on your tune, you can see a net gain of around 70-150+ hp, but again, depends on the tune and how much you put into it. I'm getting hooked up with the Cobb tunning, and they shop told me i can see gains up to 110 to the wheels. Hope some of this info helps you.

And just saw that you were from Jersey, not to far from me (i live in Pa right across from Phillipsburg NJ), I can hook you up with some shops in the area if your interested.

I started off with the same mods that you have right now. That Borla catback is loud! lol. I added HFC, DP, Intake, FMIC, FMIC piping on 91 oct pee water. I saw gains of 302whp/314tq on a conservative dyno tune since my MR is a DD. No problems with the SST just a little hiccup between 2nd gear and 3rd gear that my tuner is working on fixing with another tune. Hope this helps. Good luck and enjoy the new found powa!

haha yeah I love the borla so much and damn those numbers are pretty good for a conservative tune. im looking to keep it as a DD too and i would be more than happy with those numbers lol. Ill keep the 2nd to 3rd gear thing in mind if i get the same problem too. Also for now i think im just gonna stick with an intake and exhaust and see where the tune takes me with that lol gotta lay off the modding for a while i need some $$ haha. thanks alot for the help.

I was wondering after a tune what kind of gas mileage would i expect..Would it increase/decrease and by how much because I'm trying to gain some power but I'm also trying to get an increase in gas mileage or at least keep it as it is. I do alot of city driving so 1 tank doesn't last me too long and its hard driving like a granny in this car lol. I plan to keep the car as a DD.

Idk if this is normal but I'm barely getting 200 miles in one tank and if i really drive like a granny i can manage just about ~210 miles. If i get an Eco tune will it still increase power and what kind of power and mileage gains could I expect.

Sorry for all the questions I'm a noob with tuning and I'm doing alot of research before I do anything.

Again thanks alot for the help, I really appreciate it.

Btw Flemmington isn't to far man, so let me know.

Anyway, The gas milage seems right about accurate, welcome to the Evo world. People say different things with upgrading and tunning with gas milage. Most mods makes the car "breath" better, so it would give better gas milage. But other people disagree and say it makes it worse. You can granny drive it no matter what you have done to it and make it get better gas milage, shift before the turbo starts spooling and you should be good, and i know, its hard to do haha. You shouldn't be seeing a ridiculous amount of mpg lost, maybe some gains, but it does depend on how you drive, and with city driving, might be seeing the gas station more then your girlfriend
