Stock knock fact or fiction?

There has been talk that on a stock tune with 100% stock parts EVO's knock like crazy with counts as high as 10-15 count.
Now the question is true or false proof would help any claim.

On the IX, they did the same thing. Mainly in states that had 91oct. At 18k my stock IX with zero mods and well maintained, had rod knock and had Rod bearings, crank bearings and rod bolts replaced under warranty.
This is why at the very least, a tune should be done even with no mods.

The stock tune chokes the engine, so knock will result from this. Don't know the specific count tho?

^Depends on the car. The porblem with those tunes is that they are one-size-fits-all. We all know that no 2 cars are alike. So, it could take away all knock on one car, but increase it on yours. You never know.

And yes, they do knock stock. I've seen usually around 3-5 counts. You have to be careful though because the VIII's have kinda a cruddy knock sensor and some cars will ALWAYS have a good bit of knock around 2500-3000 no matter what you do.

This is a 3rd gear run (2k-7k rpm) when my car was stock. 1-2 knocks , so 10-15 knock count is surely a myth .My EVO is EDM (Europe) .

EDM? So you have European gas? Don't underestimate the complete worthlessness of CA/NV/AZ 91 octane.

Yes it is on European gas , 100 RON , similar to your 93 octane .

That's what I thought. My stock '05 WRX used to knock on CA91. I could see how a stock EVO X could, especially under hard driving conditions.

My stock X knocked on certain brands of 93-octane but not on others. All depends on the gas you have in your area (and it'll be even worse for areas that have only 91, or even worse yet, California 91).

My suggestion: If you don't drive your car hard, even the CA91 should be fine. But if you push your car, especially auto-x or track, find a station that sells race gas, and put a gallon in with every tank.

If completely stock the car will be fine with the stock tune on 91-octane. Or just use the Cobb AP Stage 1 OTS map.

yo

Hi
Well did some digging and founs the Mitsubishi customer support and the local dealers Know nothing at all about the car.
Customer support asked me if the car was making a knocking sound then said they don't have techs there for me to talk to so I called the local dealer here and they were like wwhhaaa and said to bring it in.
So I asked if they had a way to run the car to see if it knocks and they said when I bring it in they can check to see if the knock sen was triped so I asked if it would tell them the count they said what do you mean count>.
I wish I was in cali agen so I could go to a real dealer even a real tunning shop the only good one here is in the next state suxs still the question is un answered.

By the way I got the info about the stock tune knocking off the 2011 cobb app page on this forum.

Any on else know if true or not and to what degree of knock?
