I went from a cone filter on my stock piping, to a ets intake. Well the stock intake with a filter is great fun for noise and a little bump in hp, but if your looking for an full intake system go for ets, or ect.... But if you wanna stay mostly stock for the time and want some bov noise go for the cone and make sure you reset the ecu. enjoy!

Post up how the filter swap goes.
There is a link in this thread where someone else did the ghetto swap already.

I think I know how it is going to end. Hopefully it doesn't end with the filter sliding off and a nice piece of road gravel getting sucked in.

when u ran the cone, did u have a heatshield? did u have any serious problems at all?

im looking to do this because i wanna stay mostly stock and just want to do a small mod, since i havent done any kind of modding before so i figure this should be simple enough. but i dont want to encounter any problems. thanks

No, i did not run in to any problem with the intake. An i did not use a heat shield and it worked fine.

Do it right or dont do it at all. Get a Full intake or a inlet hose and Panel filter. Why would you want to do a cheap ghetto mod on a $30K+ car????

I placed a 3in Cone filter on the stock MAF housing, with resetting the ECU and leaving the front stock inlet on. Haven't run into any problems whatsoever. I plan on adding a heatshield soon, since it's winter i haven't really had any issues with the A/C fan.

Forgive me if i'm wrong, but what is the different between doing that and the Cobb intake?

nothing.

get a tune though, or you're asking for trouble.

Okay, that's what I figured. Than why is everyone sh***** on people who decide to do this?

I do plan on tuning soon regardless; however doesn't the car run obnoxiously rich anyway from stock, wouldn't this just lean it out a bit?

couple of mentions in here about turbo inlet hoses, turbo suction hose, its another one of those mods i donno if i'd do without tune :/. Some also talk about needing to do the compressor outflow pipe before doing the inlet hose, looking into these issues now...

I agree with most of the comments in here. If the majority are saying don't do it, don't do it. Lots of things might sound like a good idea, work for a while, but its a risk, you willing to make that risk? People in here love this car, and expect others to love it just as much, it's your call if ya wanna rig it differently.
