Cheaper Intake Help!

So i was wondering if ETS and other vendors sell SR intake adaptors for the Evo X, can i just go to my local autozone and pick up a KN Cone filter and swap that on instead of the box, ill be keeping the stock pipe and everything. I tried searching all over this forum for it but no results. Just wanted to know if its worth it or not.

Guess most 3" filters will fit without the need for an adapter..

As long as you're still leaving the stock MAF housing in-place, it shouldn't really matter..

on the other hand, without a heat shield, you might run into an issue with stumbling when the AC kicks on.

You can check out this thread for some ideas..

You are better off installing the drop in filter as opposed to just rigging a cone filter on your car. DO it right or don't do it at all. If you want to go cheap, pick up the Cob Torbo inlet and drop in filter.

+1
Rigging the filter to the stock maf might cause some in unwanted turbulence. Panel or Buy a proper kit.

I also recommend picking up the Cobb AP so you don't end up running richer with the upgraded intake. You can pick one up used for about 400 or brand knew for 500. It's really worth it. Just don't waste your time doing it the wrong way, these cars are too expensive to fix if something goes really wrong.

Way to bump and old thread. I think the OP was just trolling anyway.

Most of the problems come from when intakes don't have a heat shield, when the A/C fans kick on it blows all the hot air straight into the intake and causes turbulence and such. If your not going to buy an actual intake kit I would just buy a panel filter and put that in, you would be surprised the difference just a panel filter makes.

im thinking of leaving it like this in the first post on this page.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...e-style-5.html

i dont think there would be any serious problem if i leave the front end on. Atleast no one was saying of any issues in that thread

Seriously... Why not just get a 20-50$ panel filter if you can't afford an actual intake? I run an HKS panel filter and it works fine, I also am sitting at 350ish hp and 360ish tq.
