replace stock air intake w/ cone style

This job is really simple and straight forward I rate it 3/10. you will need philips screw driver , 10mm socket with a long extension , and small pliers . should take about 20 min including pee breaks. the best part is any 3inch cone style filter will just slip right on. the stock air tube has a nice 1 inch lip from the factory. I will post pics later but here is the simple run thru.

first remove the 2 plastic tabs on the from of the intake scoop. then remove the bolt on Right side of the airbox , now the 2 small bolts on the back of the airbox and wiggle the box up and it will come out. be sure to unhooke the wire clips the hold the wires going over the air box.

it did seem easier if you open the airbox and remove the filter the you can take the box off in 2 smaller parts but really not needed.

now place any 3inch round filter you would like and clamp down. I got mine at autozone 24.99 and will fit from 3inch to 4 inch pipe. its about 9 inches long.

realize you will now here the turbo spool up more as it seem the box doubles as sound deading device. really sound sweet like a turbo car should.

enjoy. from all the tuners this should add about 25 hp for 25 dollars .

pic 2 shows the side area where the bolt is holding the box down. long extension works best here. , after removal , I just put the bolt back on and tightened it down.

3rd pic shows the back 2 bolts that hold the box to the air intake duct. dont foget to unhook the 2 plastic clamps on top holding a small harnes . use the pliers here.

NOt sure how to post sound clips or I would post some. but this sounds sweet , faintly with windows up but more obvious with windows down.

the little white hose goes to my boost gauge.

enjoy.

I'm working on an adaptor that bolts to the stock maf housing and accepts a filter. It will be a filter kit. I'll post an update once its done

thats creative and nicely done mod, but to me it seems as if the filter is in a heat soak area, even the ams one. Maybe if it ran further out or a cold air set up. then again they are getting good gains with just that.

steve

you dont need and adaptor unless your extending the filter or if you could run this to a better location. some type of heat sheat could be helpful . I will start looking into how to attach the original air scoop back up and maybe a box that surrounds the filter for better cool air flow. list your up when you can.
