I did this mod in about a half hour, one of my plastic rivet screws was stripped so i had to yank it out, so there's no goin back for me. but, i love the obnoxious spool up and blow off now.

i have an autocross this weekend, i'll post a link to some vids, you'll be able to compare the sound from before and after from a car mounted cam.

peace, danno

lol back when I got my tune I also had the Cobb intake installed and we ran into the spinning screw problem to. But we where in a rush to get it installed so we could start tuning. So we just eventually cut the screws off lol. I guess that ^^ would have worked too

I just did this mod with the K&N filter. The install went smooth, about 10 minutes.

I did encounter one of the "spinning bolts" on one side of the MAF tube. I just took that tube out and used a screw driver to work my way underneath the washer of the spinning bolt. Then I popped it up out of the housing. All you have to do then is just superglue the pieces back into place and it's as good as new when you want to put the stock air box back on.

But HOLY CRAP the turbo spool and recirc valve is loud now. I just started laughing when I heard how loud it was. It rivals most F-350's. The recirc valve actually sounds like a blow off valve too. It could get a little obnoxious, but it's a nice change from the near silence of the stock intake.

I found the K&N 0930 filter at Advance Auto Parts for $45. It was well worth it. I can tell a slight increase in acceleration, but it's not a night and day difference.

here's a link to an article explaining what's actually happening when you replace the stock air intake.

http://www.cobbtuning.com/info/?ID=3223

one problem i can see having done this mod on the quick, is the fact that the filter is most likely bouncing around on the bushings that used to hold up the old intake duct. This would cause turbulence on the mass air filter, and cause unpredictable results in performance. also, if your air filter is resting at too much of an angle from the MAF you may have constant turbulence. i just ordered an AMS intake because i'm not comfortable with the way my filter is set up, the AMS intake will be nicely mounted with a heat shield, and it includes a new MAF housing that minimized turbulence. hopefully it's not any bigger than the original housing, as per the article above.

here's a video of my last autocross race, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8xYX7ytnfk, this is with the cone filter.

if you tuned for the new intake, you may see a more marked increase.

Does anyone know the part number for the AEM dryflow universal cone filter that will work? I'm thinking the 21-203D will work but I want to run it by the experts before I purchase. Thanks

hey! just did this mod and its real easy, and surprisingly i didnt have the spinning bolt issue at all! car is an 08 but only 20k on it so thats probably why.. didnt reset the ecu with the battery disconnect yet but when i get the time ill see if it really helps on the buttdyno. lol but the sound is amazing!! i used to hear the spooling with just my muffler and stock airbox but this sounds awesome and you can easily hear it outside if you drive by. and the recirc sounds legit! more mods to come!!!!

Glad you enjoyed it. it was a nice simple mod and likely worth a few ponies somewhere looking at how restrictive the box is. but the sound is worth the mod alone.
