2011 MR with GSR VIN
Has a dual-clutch 6 speed transmission, also build with Getrag... Just like Mitsubishi did..
All automatic transmission is basically an automated manual... LOL .
All automatic transmission allows you to change gears manually( they actually also can be called semi -automatic then, since you do a gear change in that case, make sence?), there is no difference there between a conventional and the dual clutch.
The SST is different in two ways, they do not use TQ converter instead they use clutch(makes it faster to change gears) and they do select gears internally different(also for faster gear change) It is a same method as my wife fiesta does. So it is a newer more efficent automatic transmission then the TQ convereter as for an example. SST is a newer better technoligy that is all.
So the human input what makes a difference between manual or automatic, that is same with ANY automatic transmission. That is how you make a difference between manual or automatic transmissions by a human action or input to make or select gears. Example , you can not go from 5th to 2nd like you can do with a manual transmission.
Doesnt matter how you call that specific automatic transmission. The different names basically is marketing .
They call it automatic because you dont need to use a clutch pedal, and does the gear changes for you, you never move any internal parts with your hands mechanically/directly in them, it is all electrically controlled gear changes. And it does it for you just like any other automatic transmission, but faster and more efficent. End of story.
how you guys saying it?
"if it walks like a duck , sounds like a duck, looks like a duck then its a duck " or something like this ... lol
"TC-SST uses dual clutches to change gears. The TC-SST completes the clutch and gear shifts more quickly than a driver could in a conventional manual transmission, and is also quicker than either an automatic transmission with a torque converter, or a single clutch automated manual transmission.[4] The system's high-efficiency power transmission mechanism is on par with a normal manual gearbox, while allowing quicker gear shifting with no drop-off in engine power, thus offering greater performance and better fuel economy.[4] The system can be operated by both a console-mounted shifter, and magnesium steering wheel paddle shifters; and offers semi-manual and fully automatic modes.[3][4] TC-SST also works in conjunction with Mitsubishi's S-AWC system.[7]"

Robevo , exactly ^. I think the reason why people don't like calling it an automatic is because it sounds weak and has a bad context, however, as described in my last post, it is what it is. Even though the sst was designed differently, in the end it does what an automatic trans does, just faster and more efficiently.

Your agent (or his system) is incorrect. According to Mitsu's 2011 VIN guidelines, this is a MR. The underlined portion above would be W8 if it were a GSR.
