key battery died

Hello everyone so as stated above the battery in my FAST key died. I had an extra key but it got lost when I gave it to my parents. I replaced the battery and the FAST does not work. When I take off the plastic cap on the steering wheel and insert the actual key it will not start. The dash displays 'KEY MISSING' or something along those lines. I have read the manual enough times I could recite it on spot. Do I really have to go to the dealer and have the key/car programed? Does anyone know of a way to avoid this? I know this sounds sketchy but it really is my car, look at my post history. 2008 GSR its blue and it is all mine since I picked it up with 7mi on the dash. Any help would be huge.

Odd, I had to replace the battery in my FAST key for my '09 Ralliart. I went to Walmart, bought the replacement battery, switched it out, and it was fine. It didn't have to be reprogrammed by the dealer.

Sounds like there may be a bigger problem than just the battery.

It should work. I have replaced the batteries in both my keys and I did not do anything special to get them working again. Check if you inserted the battery correctly. Do you get a light when a button is pressed?

+1

I know it sounds stupid, but make sure it's not in there upside down...

How long was the key dead for? you could have zeroed out the info, thus having to get it reprogrammed.

when you insert the key into the ignition you know you need to hold the keyfob to the base of the key piece right?

I would try a different battery. Maybe you have the wrong one, or one without enough juice even though it's new

Maybe the battery in the key fob never died and what happen was your FAST key got erased. There's a recall on the older keys where cell phones can erase the programming on the key.

I replaced my batteries no problem.

Like Blade said, you know you have to slide the end of the key fob over/onto the end of the key when you stick the metal key in the ignition right?
