Screw this thread. And I'm sure I've forgotten some things. Actually I know I've left some stuff out, like yakima roof rack, radar detector...

500 - AMS CAI
630 - AMS UICP & LICP
350 - AMS Downpipe
350 - SX HFC
1200 - SX Exhaust
250 - AEM Wideband
900 - Exedy Stage II + ACT StreetLite Flywheel
1250 - Clutch, Downpipe & AEM install
2000 - Carbonetic Clutch
1300 - Jack's Transmission Rebuild w/ Center Diff pin upgrade
1400 - Clutch Install ($300 extra for dealer to fix what shop f'd up, after shop charged $250 over what they quoted…)
4500 - TE37SL & Tires
500 - Hawk HP +

Lots of great responses, but it does make my stomach ache for a sec when I look at what was spent. Buying used parts has helped a lot, but I still can't help but want more like my Te-37's etc. when I look at different blogs like stickydiljoe, jdmego and what not. It's more so a lifestyle, that's crazy gratifying when the car breaks necks on the highway would I do it any different.... I might have bought the twin disk first instead of two stage 2 clutches lol but now I know. Also I'm learning that modding is an addiction but if done in moderation it's all good. You just don't want to end up, "that guy" living in moms basement, single at 29 with 50k in his car and that's all he's got going for him. If done in moderation you can have your cake and eat it too.

Oh yeah I totally agree. I bought my house at the bottom of the housing market fall-out and snagged a 4% interest rate. I'm all about this. I just see the cost of living as the cost of living so as far as how much I put towards the hobbies I have, cost of shelter is cost of shelter.

However, I can compare it like this. I was in a 3bd 2ba apartment in Scottsdale AZ for 1100/mo. It was about 1300sqft apt.

Compared to this house, which is 4bd 3ba with a 2car garage that is 2500sqft for 1200/mo. The house is super efficient (brand new with 14seer rated ac's (2) ), so my power bill is lower, but I pay 110/mo for my HOA. It all evens out.

anyhow, House > Car. But, I'm not going to give up spending on the Evo, so

( (House > Evo ) > Life )

Thats what credit cards are for right!?!?! Then when you cant afford to pay it all back you can get attorney to tell the CC companies to **** off...its the American way right????? God I sure do hope theres not people on this board like that...they arent helping anything but themselves.

No its not that Arizona is cheap...its that other parts of the country are overpriced lol.

Im in Maumee OH paying 850/mo for my 1160sqft house at 4 1/8% I agree with the way you look at things...house=shelter and Evo=happiness so they kinda go had in hand lol. I know some friends that are paying 850/mo for apts that are smaller than my house. It just doesnt make sense to me :/

Compared to the NE, yes. I grew up in southern Cali, but moved to AZ for school. I decided to stay because it seemed like one of the few places I could get a start on life without going broke

I'm not sure if anyone doing their estimates are counting the parts that didn't work. I used different intercooler pipes, clutches, oils, intakes, tires, suspension, etc. Lots of things that didn't work as a combination or just changing the car's purpose as a daily driver or track car.

From the time I drove it off the lot until the time I sold it I invested somewhere close to $25k in mods.

FWIW the day I sold it I still felt bad about losing the car; not the money.

Probably about $5-6k. It doesn't seem like a logically decision to dump insane amounts of money into a car when it adds absolutely no value to the car, despite what many may think. The only cars I would highly modify are supercars like GTR, Gallardo, etc.

Instead I took the money I was going to dump into my Evo this summer, and bought a 260hp Supercharged jet ski=way more fun then the Evo, not to mention I can still get money back when I want to sell it. The acceleartion feels simlar to an 1000cc sports bike.

Well I shouldn't say way more fun,but it is a different kind of fun, where you can ride like a lunatic and speed and not have to worry about going to jail.

Az does seem cheap, my 1 bed apt was 1200 a month ;( NY baby! And I didn't use cc's for my mods at all, the fiancé did chip in as gifts for a good amount but yea it's a no brainer
House/shelter>hobby.
Also I didn't count a few minor things like samco couplers that didn't fit properly and led turning signals $40 but you guys get the idea.
When I finally nab our house I'll be doing yard and deck mods lol

It dawned on me also that you just get a lot of bang for your dollar modding an evo vs say a gtr. The new ams race intercooler for the gtr is $3,999! yea 2,000 more and you have an ams turbo kit for an evo x!
