I think a person should get the choice of taking or not taking their vehicle back during a theft recovery. Unfortunately it doesnt work that way. From the damage you described it sounds like the insurance will fix it. You will probably have to take the car back. Sorry to hear though. Hopefully that kid gets punished to the full extent of the law.

You'll hate yourself if you get a Z or Supra, the whole Z family is way too soft and slow and the Supra is good for one thing, straight lines. Evo for life definitely go for an 8/9 or another X IMO

I agree with you. Im interested to see what the garage says the damages are. Cause the wheels wouldn't turn or engine start. The cops say our story is all 3rd party hear say. Well no crap the 1st party was involved and you haven't even talked to him yet. Going to release the car in a couple mins from the impound lot..

I don't think this is true, when a vehicle is stolen with damage, it brands the vehicle just like a salvage and insurance on that car will also go up even tho it might not be the owners fault, you pay for insurance so you don't get stuck with a vehicle like that. If for some reason the insurance company says it's yours without giving you a bunch of money, get a lawyer and it will be settled. I wouldn't consider taking it back and fixing it, you pay insurance for this reason.

I believe insurance laws vary state to state. In Texas I'm pretty sure you have to take it back if they find it and there is no damages or the damages do not exceed the value. Maybe different in NY. And I do not know for sure. I am just speaking from my experience when my CBR was stolen.

Edit** May she rest in peace wherever chop shop she ended up:

Often, with a theft or other damage to the car that's not your fault you can (and should) negotiate with the insurance company for a payment to adjust for the decreased value due to the claim. So, for example, the car was fixed for $5k though the claim willnow show up on CarFax etc you would negotiate for another 2 or 3k to account for the reduced sale value of the car. Smarter people than me will have these details so read up.

Are you talking about a diminished value claim? Good luck with that. They will low ball you if they even offer you anything at all.

My 240sx was stolen and recovered and the adjuster asked me if I wanted the car back. I said no and she cut me a check which also allowed me to buy my Evo X.

Sorry about that bro, I know how it feels.....really sucks, but the upside is that once you get your new car you'll forget about all of this.

Sounds like its gonna be totaled so you'll be fine and they'll cut you a check. GL.

I did not think about this! My car is sitting in the body shop right now with almost 10k worth of damage from baseball size hail. I wonder if that will show up on a car fax report. Expecting a call from the ins. adjuster today (because it got hit with hail AGAIN last friday while it was on body shop lot fml) i need to find out if State Farm in Texas will report it and raise hell if they do, maybe i can get some more mod money

What was the blue book on your 240sx? I'm assuming no more then a couple of grand right? Was there any damages to the car? I would think it a little different then a $20k plus vehicle. I don't think they are so quick to total it out.

With my bike they never found it. They paid me almost $10k. But if they had found it with no apparent damages or issues they said I would have to take the bike back.
