I got $3,800 for my 1989 240sx hatchback. It wasn't totaled, it was damaged. But like I said, they gave me options....I could have kept the car and gotten money to fix the stuff. But I wanted out.

$3800?? Who's your insurance? On kbb it wont even let me look at the value of 1989 because it is no longer in blue book. But a 1992 Nissan 240sx hatchback with 80k miles and is excellent condition has the retail price (not tradein or private party) of only $3500. Private party is only $2000 in fair condition. I would think yours would be fair since it had damages and again this was for a 1992. Your insurance hooked you up

Yes they did hook it up. And don't ask me how they got that much, maybe cause I live in NorCal where everything is more haha.

And my insurance is progressive. Always always have comprehensive insurance.....it's a life saver

G35s are so boring to drive. The nismo 370 isnt as fun as a s2000. For 28k I would get a evo x or a c6 vette, used boxster s, or best of all a NSX and boost it

Yep DONT get a G35...i came from a G35...you have to baby those cars. Clutch pedal would stick to the floor anytime i would even try to pull off hard.

Sucks to hear man. I would try and get as many mods off of the stolen one and buy a new X to put them on. You will be disappointed if you buy a lot of the cars on your list.

So for an update. The kid finally admitted it. We have it recorded and he admitted it to his mom. Cops will be picking him up in a little bit. Also found out where the accident was. Hit the side of a hill and a rock which caused about 11inches of my wheel lip to be gone. Then somehow drove over a 4 foot deep by 4 foot long ditch and back onto the road where there are oils tracks 400 yards up the road to the kids house he went to. Then back out of the driveway and down another 700 yards or so until the road darkened and and the could barely see the oil anymore. Drove from that point about 20 mins away until the car took a crap.

Best part of it when we found the missing parts we called the cops and they sent somewhere to us. He pulls up and his first question asked was and where was the accident at?? Well look what you drove by and directly to your left... Oh and since the cops were wondering where the missing parts were as well as us it was kinda hard to miss when you were at that kids house the day before questioning his uncle about it..cops around here do nothing

The OP said he had 28k. Now tell me, what kind of Shelby GT 500 could he buy for that? 2008's are still in the 30k range if they are in good shape and lower mileage.

If the insurance decides the damages exceed the value of the car or its not worth fixing then they cut you a check for the car right? But don't they then own and take the car? Would you be able to part it out if they total the car?

I know they can total a car and then allow you to buy it back. But you would have to crunch the numbers on that. Depends on how much they give you, how much to buy it back, and how much you expect from parting it out.

If you owe the bank for the car they pay the bank the money you owe first. Then whats left they cut you in a check. The insurance valued my bike at $10k. I owed about $4k on the loan. The insurance paid off my loan and cut me a check for $6k.

Yes, tha the term I was thinking of but couldn't recall. From what I understand a lawyer can be very helpful in negotiating for this along with the rest. It sound like you mighvegave needed a better lawyer. Either way, it's worth discussing with the adjuster.

The problem is the price of good lawyers these days. Shoot...the price of lawyers (good or bad) in general. I am currently going through diminished value claims.

Lady hit my car. I believe I have lost about $3k in value according to trade-in offers compared to kbb/nada/edmunds trade-in value. The insurance say they go by private party value loss. But how do you prove private party value on a car that has been wrecked and repaired?

Basically they are offering $1000. So you can either higher a lawyer and pay them $1k-$2k and maybe end up with more then the $1000. Or do you just take the grand knowing you are getting low balled? Is a bird in the hand worth more then two in the bush? And alot of insurance companies will not even offer ANY kind of diminished value without you hiring a lawyer and possibly taking them to court over it. And diminished value laws (or lack of) vary state to state. Some states you have very little chance of obtaining diminished value even with a good expensive lawyer and in court.

Anyone ever having to go through diminished value claims good luck!!
