How much tuning can effect fuel economy?
How much tuning can effect fuel economy?
Question, what is your personal fuel economy like for your Evo X after being tuned?
Just curious on what it will be like. Does it drastically change MPG?

It can. Depends on several factors but, usually mpg will improve a bit, as you'll be tuned a bit leaner. We have a few different maps for different tracks and exhausts and, as the AFR changes a bit with these tunes, so does the burn rate.
Pre-tune / post-tune my mixed driving average is only changed by .5-1mpg
However, when my X was new and untuned I would see city around 15-16mpg and now I see 17-18 more frequently.

Depends on how much the tune changes, but generally people see better mileage.
It changes more for 08 users since their stock tune was less optimized for mileage.
My 2012 rom almost looked tuned already at first glance. The 0-100 load area is already quite dialed in with regards to fuel economy.
Those same changes on the 08 would show some gain.

MPG from my stock tune vs Pro tune was about 4 mpg... favoring the Pro tune map. I was using an mobile application, forgot what it was called, to get true MPG... But I drove like a grandma, not fun. MPGs on our cars are still pretty Sh**ty
Last time I spoke to my tuner, you can run 2 maps... one "perfomance map" and "economy map". How much more economical, I have no idea. Is it worth it?! Tuning fees, Time, etc. vs Gas savings... You can probably get your ROI after a couple of years

My MPG has stayed practically the same all the way from new to modified. I generally average 18-20 MPG in my daily mixed driving, and 22-26 MPG on the highway depending on speed.
Stock or modified, the best way to save gas is stay out of boost, but what fun is that

Keeping it light on the gas pedal is key with every car, a lot of people forget this is a 3500-3600lbs car plus driver, fluids.
This might sound silly but I have done this with all my previous cars. I never fill up past 1/2 of the tank. Its less weight you lug around and fuel is heavy. Granted you need to stop at the pump more often, I don't mind.
The fuel economy is right on the button (AWD, turbo, heavy car). Another thing I do is I throw it into neutral every chance I get when going down a longer steady hill, that I know it is safe to not be in a gear.
Did that with my 1g and 2g dsm and it worked very well. Also be mindful of how much the engine is struggling. Use the gearing to its advantage, for ex. if you floor it in 5th and you are doing 20, you are not going to go anywhere but the ecu will be injecting 100% fuel it can at that point. In 3rd you will only need 25% throttle briefly, sure the higher RPM offsets some of the gains but it works.

Lol I can't believe this. I shift at 3k when I'm just driving normally..stay out of boost and don't get 21 in the city. You must be grannying more than I am
