VP style gas can in trunk?

I'm curious if I would be able to fit 4 of the 5 gallon VP style gas cans in the trunk of the X? I'm not sure how tall they are. For the most part I wouldn't be cruising around with them. I'm converting to E85 soon and wanted to fill them up and keep them at home to use during the week since the closest station is 20 miles from my house and 7 from work. Wanted to fill up maybe once a week on my lunch break and use the cans to make sure I make it the week.

Part two would be if I did decide to go to the canyons or something where I would have to carry a couple of cans to make it, are they ok back there? Do they seal pretty well? Sorry for the noob questions. My only experience with gas cans are the old cheap plastic ones that leak everywhere when the turn over and when you try to fill the tank. I'm assuming for the price the VP ones should be better.

Thanks.

Both the VP and Jegs 5-gal can are a bit over 21" tall. With the spare still in the trunk, you have a bit less than 18" to work with. So that's out. But with the spare removed, it just might work.

Ok thanks. Guess they are going in the back seat. Hopefully I don't end up in a ball of flames if things go bad.

Actually any other cans you can suggest? I see the "no spill" ones on amazon that are lower profile. Just some complaints that it's harder to refuel a car with them do to the stiff and short hose. (Yea yea but I didn't know how else to say it)

Better complaints about short and stiff than long and floppy, but we digress.....

Personally, I wouldn't drive with gas cans anywhere in the car. That's what trailers are for. If you insist, then inside the car might be safer (in an accident) as long as they seal perfectly.

I have used these before with E85 and I didn't have any issues. They don't spill. If you keep your gas jugs in the back seat the smell of E-85 will be noticeable.

Thanks guys. For the most part I wasn't planning on storing them in the car. Just fill them up and leave them in the garage so I don't get caught out. I'm ok
With the smell. Running a test pipe with 91 now and actually like the smell. Although I don't smell it like I did when I got the test pipe.

As far as a trailer. No room for one and I traded my Rover in on the Evo so no way to pull one. I'm ok with the risk.

The sacrifices we make for more power. My non Evo friends think I'm a wack job paying to convert my car to a fuel that's sold in limited places.

I used to run e85 and carry about 70 gallons to the track inside the car. It was not fun, safe or recommended. That being said, the VP style can fits fine in the trunk (spare removed) with the regular flat cap on it. It also fits with the hose cap but it needed to be bent to fit. I also found the rectangular cans to be the best to carry in the back seat on the floor and secured by moving the seat back.

I also was basically limping to the track and not driving hard into corners. I don't think I'd have done that with hundreds of pounds of fuel in the car.

It's also illegal to carry higher that certain amount without permit in most states.

Be careful.

Thank you. I do like the VP cans but don't really want to remove my spare each time. May just get the smaller profile red ones. They are just for the 20 mile drive back from the station. Not sure what the law is on that but I think I became a scofflaw anyways went I went to a test pipe, loud exhaust and running E. Lol may as well be a full criminal and carry gas.

I haven't had a problem with the test pipe yet. The cops in my area must be cool. Once had one right behind me at about midnight and I got the biggest backfire ever and in a quiet area that late it was fricken loud. He changed lanes and went by me. Lol but I am hoping the smell of E may throw some of them off so they don't realize my car smells like gas fumes. I do get a little panicky when a motorcycles cop gets behind me at a light.
