so can you just show up at any Mitsu dealer and get it replaced? Do you have to receive a letter from Mitsu? I bought my 2011 second hand from an Audi dealer.

On the stock clutch I wouldn't worry too much about your CMC.

You will have to wait until your VIN is eligible for the recall, but any Mitsu dealership can do it.

This will most certainly happen.

A recall is a recall PERIOD. They have to fix the issue. But don't think for a second Mitsu wont Blacklist/Refuse your vehicle from future repairs.

They are notorious for this kind of crap going back to 03 when the EVO came stateside

that's kinda dependent on the dealer. my dealership loves my car and always take my car in regardless. if they cant work the issue because the mods are in the way, then they let me know. but never have they turned me away immediately because of them, nor have I been blacklisted

You are lucky and that is certainly not the norm by any means for Mitsubishi Dealers trust me. For me, if I had a new X I wouldn't let them work on it anyway.

is that so? so cmc failure is correlated to aftermarket/heavy duty clutches. learned something new today.

For the most part, yes. Have failures occurred with stock clutches? Yes, which is why Mitsu has an upcoming recall for it, but it's no where near as likely.

yea, my cmc has been performing flawlessly for over 100k miles now (stock clutch). but just recently, i had three incidents where my clutch lost resistance for a split second during a downshift. half way down the clutch, it just went flat for a second and the resistance came back on. it felt weird. the first time it happened, i wasn't sure if it was me or the car. but when it happened again couple of weeks later, my heart sank because i thought my cmc was about to crap out on me.

this happened around 90k miles and it has not come back since.

The Recall won't be open until November, meaning repairs won't begin until then, but this way ya'll can be aware.
does anyone know of a decent evo mechanic to do some clutch work for me in the 10956 area. thats in New City, NY. Had been using sean Ivey, but just to far away. car is immobilized right now, so really could use a good referral for my area.

Thanks.

Too Little, Too Late

Too little, too late. I walked 10 miles home when my 08 X stock clutch / stock cmc popped. Maybe you will have different results.

Magnus Master Cylinder

I'm currently rolling on my 2nd Aftermarket Master Cylinder and my 3rd Clutch. My stock clutch and Master Cylinder went out at 20K. Replaced it with an Exedy Stage 2 Clutch and SSP Master Cylinder and aftermarket lightweight aluminum flywheel. The SSP Master Cylinder failed at about 43k with the Exedy on its way out. Replaced it based on forum feedback with the Clutchmaster Fullface Stage 3 Clutch and a Magnus Master Cylinder along with Stock Flywheel. Been doing fine ever since. Love the Clutch, but I was worried about the Magnus Master Cylinder. If I were going to get this Recall done to replace the Magnus, I wonder if it can be done. The reason being is that the Magnus Master Cylinder (basically a stock EVO IX Master Cylinder) uses an adapter to "fit" in the stock Master Cylinder location. But I was told once you go with this Master Cylinder, you are practically stuck with it (meaning you can only get it replaced with another Magnus ~ala EVO IX Master Cylinder) since they have to remove some bits to make it fit.

Anyone think this will be a problem or heard this? The install was done at JMS (San Antonio).

Thanx!
